Topic: Active Zeal [Tuesday March 14, 2017]
“And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?” (Matt. 26:40)
Jesus went with Peter, James, and John to pray in the garden of Gethsemane. . It was a very tempestuous day for Jesus and His disciples and they needed to pray. While Jesus went out to pray, His disciples made out a bed in the garden and slept like logs of wood. They were able to sleep like that because they lacked zeal for God, His house and His work. Grave as the situation was, it didn’t sink in with Jesus’ three henchmen.
When Jesus returned to find them sleeping, He turned to Peter and queried, why he could not pray with Him for only one hour. That happened in the book of Matthew. Flip forward to Acts 2 and see what the same Peter who could not pray for one hour did after he developed passion for God. Because his passion had been stirred up, Peter, in one day, won three thousand souls for God. That is what zeal does! Without zeal, you cannot get what you want. And even if you get it by chance, you cannot keep it.
How many souls have you won for Christ? Do you have passion for members that you no longer see in church? Have you tried to restore that backslider that you know? Do you follow up first time visitors to the church? Do you care about them at all?
Your fasting and prayer will work faster and better when you handle God’s work with zeal. Go and stoke that fire and watch things work for you.
WORD OF WISDOM: What you get by chance you will lose by carelessness.
PRAYER/CONFESSION: In the name of Jesus, Father, I break the back of anything that wants to make me lose what I have. My zeal, why are you so dull within me? Wake up.
