DCLM Daily Manna – Control Your Tongue

Topic: Control Your Tongue [Tuesday March 13th, 2018]

Text: Proverbs 12:1-16 (KJV)

Key Verse: “A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompence of a man’s hands shall be rendered unto him” (Proverbs 12:14).

MESSAGE:

Can it be that the average person spends one-fifth of his or her life talking? That’s what statistics say. If all our words are put into print, the result would be this: single day’s words would fill a 50-page book, while in a year’s time, the average person’s word would fill 132 books of 200 pages each! Among all those words, there are bound to be some spoken in anger, carelessness or haste.

Generally, the book of Proverbs is considered as the most practical book that touches on all areas of life such as marriage and family (verse 4), wicked inventions (verses 5,6,12), and the control of the tongue which receives significant emphasis in verse 6, 13-14. Our study presents a cocktail of contrasts – a very useful tool to direct us through life.

God gave us the tongue as a tool to express feelings, thoughts and to convey words of wisdom, hope, encouragement and love. Through it, we are able to worship Him in speech, and communicate His laws and ways.

Sadly, so much damage has been done through the use of the tongue which cannot be reversed. The tongue is used to destroy relationships, businesses, peddle rumours and encourage prejudices as it has the ability to set on fire the whole course of nature (James 3:6).

To set our lives in order, we need to ask the Holy Spirit to take control of our tongues. The next step in our recovery is to apologise to those we have injured with our tongues and, from then on, begin to build and to plant through the authority of the tongue. Remember that when eventually you are old and set aside from vigorous service, you can still serve in the closet of your room in prayers through the use of your tongue.

Thought For The Day: Take control of your tongue, to take control of your posterity.
