CAC Living Water Daily Devotional – Test Every Spirit

CAC Living Water Daily Devotional

CAC Living Water Daily Devotional | Saturday, October 23, 2021. | Test Every Spirit

Topic: Test Every Spirit

Read:Acts 16:16-24

Date: Saturday, October 23, 2021.

Acts 16:16-24 Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a female slave who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling.

She followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.”

She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so annoyed that he turned around and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” At that moment the spirit left her.

When her owners realized that their hope of making money was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to face the authorities.

They brought them before the magistrates and said, “These men are Jews, and are throwing our city into an uproar

By advocating customs unlawful for us Romans to accept or practice.”

The crowd joined in the attack against Paul and Silas, and the magistrates ordered them to be stripped and beaten with rods.

After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully.

When he received these orders, he put them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks.

MEMORISE:
Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. (1 John 4:1).

EXPOSITION
The Spirit of God carries about the person, power, authority, and all that God is. He has all that God has because He is equal with God. He represents the Trinity. That is, wherever He is, God the Father and the Son is present with Him. The Spirit of God is of truth, righteousness, and holiness. He bears witness in conformity with the Word of God, and can never be against the Truth.

Every spirit must be tested by the Word of God, and proven by the undiluted Truth of Christ. Many spirits are in operation in this end time, and every believer must be spiritually sensitive to discern rightly whether they are of God or not, lest we fall victim of the effect of falsehood in the world. However about these Mark 5v1-9; Acts 16v16-19?

The Spirit of the devil is manifesting in the life of false prophets and teachers. Little wonders they deceive many and populate the kingdom of darkness through their deceitful devices (cf.Jn.8v44). They disguise as apostles of Christ, cunningly entering into many lives for destruction and death in hell (cf.2 Tim.3v5ff). Should we be surprised? No! Even Satan disguises as an angel of light. So, we shouldn’t wonder that his servant do same and even worse. In the end however, they will get the due punishment for their wicked deed like their father, the devil did and would ultimately be condemned in hell.

Anyone who claims He is speaking according to the Spirit of God must acknowledge that Jesus Christ came in the body. He must believe in His virgin birth, atoning death, resurrection, ascension and unstoppleable return of the Lord Jesus Christ. Do you have the convincing Spirit in you Who testifies that you are a child of God (Rom.8v14-16)? Check your spirit, and test every spirit to know which is true.

PRAYER POINTS:
1. Lord Jesus, give me grace to know You and discern Your Spirit.
2. Father, help me to keep Your Word in my heart for guidance, every moment of my life.
3. Father, punitively expose the Spirit of falsehood and it’s proponents pervading churches today, in Jesus name.

TREM Devotional – You Are A Spirit Being

Dr. Mike Okonkwo TREM

TREM Devotional 23 October 2021 Daily Devotional By Bishop Mike Okonkwo – You Are A Spirit Being

TOPIC: You Are A Spirit Being

“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over…” Genesis 1:26 KJV

Notice the law of first mention and how Adam was made to function and dominate his world. Adam was able to name the animals. How did he do it? He was made like God in character and in nature. He was also made to function like God. He was made a spirit and then God gave him an assignment on earth.

In John chapter 3, Nicodemus asked Jesus, “how can I be born again? I am already old. Do I go into my mother’s womb again?” But Jesus replied: “…Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God” (John 3:5 KJV).

So, it’s not witches and wizards that are spirits. You are a spirit. I remember Archbishop Bishop Idahosa of the blessed memory. One day, witches decided that they were going to hold a world conference in Benin. Archbishop declared that the meeting would not hold as long as he was there. He spoke as the oracle of God. When the issue was heating up in the press, the Archbishop called for a debate with the chief of the witches in the town. The leader accepted and they met on a live television program.

That day, everyone stayed glued to the television to know what would happen. At the meeting, Archbishop Benson Idahosa said, “before we start the debate, I want to ask you: Are you a witch?” The leader said, “why are you asking me? We have come for a debate.” Archbishop responded saying, “because I am here to kill you. My bible says, “suffer not a witch to live.” A dread came upon the leader who responded saying, “I am not a witch.” So, Archbishop declared the debate over. The witch’s conference never held because somebody dared to stand for God. What you are afraid of is afraid of you! You are a spirit and made of a higher order than any other false spirits.

Seeds Of Destiny Devotional – Understanding Prayer Boosters

Paul Enenche

Dunamis’ Seeds Of Destiny 23 October 2021 Devotional By Dr. Paul Enenche — Understanding Prayer Boosters

TOPIC: Understanding Prayer Boosters

Fasting intensifies the force or power of Prayer.

SCRIPTURE: Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Romans 8:26.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Fasting intensifies the force or power of Prayer.

Prayer boosters refer to spiritual devices that have the power to increase the force of a person’s prayer life. They are spiritual boosters that give extra power to, and also increase the effect of a person’s prayer life. They help, encourage, improve or support a Christian to pray effectively.

Today, we shall be looking at five prayer boosters:

  1. Praying in tongues (Jude Verse 20)

Praying in tongues, which refers to praying in the spirit, is a booster of prayer life.

  1. Praying with fasting (Matthew 6:16)

Fasting intensifies the force or power of Prayer. It was by the power of fasting combined with prayer that Esther broke the conspiracy of Haman over the lives and destinies of the children of Israel in Shushan in the Persian Empire (Esther 4:16).

  1. Praying in the Midnight (Acts 16:25):

This is maximizing the night times for effective praying. The night time is a strategic spiritual time. So, engaging the power of the midnight amplifies a person’s prayer life.

  1. Praying with sacrifice

Sacrifice, which entails the release of one’s valuables and resources towards God, amplifies the outcome of a person’s prayer life. The release of resources towards God confirms your passion for God. Sacrificial prayer invokes God’s Presence and Power. (1 Kings 3:4).

  1. Praying with intercession

This is praying selflessly. It refers to praying for other people out of deep love for them or praying for the establishment of the Kingdom of God in a place. It is a situation where one decides to abandon one’s personal needs and focus on the needs of other people. (Job 42:10).

Remember this: Fasting intensifies the force or power of Prayer.

ASSIGNMENTS:

  1. Go through today’s message again.
  2. Ask God for the grace to pray with the engagement of each of the prayer boosters outlined above.

PRAYER: Thank You Lord for Your Word to me today. I receive speedy answers to my prayers as I engage the necessary boosters of prayer, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

FOR FURTHER UNDERSTANDING, GET THIS MESSAGE: PRAYER BOOSTERS

QUOTE: It is wisdom to find out what you are looking for in life; what God wants to do with your life; what will take you to your desired destination fast, and direct your energies there. The first of such activities, I believe, is your relationship with God – the time given to prayer and the study of the Word. Culled from “21 FOOLISH THINGS PEOPLE DO” by Dr Paul Enenche.

DAILY READING: Luke 7-9

REFLECTION: The quality of your devotion determines the quality of your destiny. You can never have a quality of life that is higher than the quality of your relationship with God. Move up.

PROPHETIC DECLARATION/WORD: Fresh fire for effective and impactful prayer is released on you in Jesus’ Name.

Today’s devotional was written by Pastor Paul Enenche of the Dunamis International Gospel Centre (DIGC), headquartered at Abuja, Nigeria, with Pastor Paul and Becky Enenche, as the Senior Pastors. DCLM Daily Manna – A Little Compromise

Pastor W. F. Kumuyi

DCLM Daily Manna 23 October 2021 Devotional By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — A Little Compromise

TOPIC: A Little Compromise

TEXT: 2 Kings 18:13-25

13 Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah did Sennacherib king of Assyria come up against all the fenced cities of Judah, and took them.

14 And Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria to Lachish, saying, I have offended; return from me: that which thou puttest on me will I bear. And the king of Assyria appointed unto Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.

15 And Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in the house of the Lord, and in the treasures of the king’s house.

16 At that time did Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of the temple of the Lord, and from the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria.

17 And the king of Assyria sent Tartan and Rabsaris and Rabshakeh from Lachish to king Hezekiah with a great host against Jerusalem. And they went up and came to Jerusalem. And when they were come up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is in the highway of the fuller’s field.

18 And when they had called to the king, there came out to them Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder.

19 And Rabshakeh said unto them, Speak ye now to Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?

20 Thou sayest, (but they are but vain words,) I have counsel and strength for the war. Now on whom dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?

21 Now, behold, thou trustest upon the staff of this bruised reed, even upon Egypt, on which if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt unto all that trust on him.

22 But if ye say unto me, We trust in the Lord our God: is not that he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and hath said to Judah and Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem?

23 Now therefore, I pray thee, give pledges to my lord the king of Assyria, and I will deliver thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.

24 How then wilt thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?

25 Am I now come up without the Lord against this place to destroy it? The Lord said to me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.

KEY VERSE: “At that time did Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of the temple of the LORD, and from the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria.” – (2 Kings 18:16)

MESSAGE:

Throughout his administration, Abraham Lincoln was a president who knew he was not perfect, but never resolved to compromise his integrity. So strong was this resolve that he once said, “I desire so to conduct the affairs of this administration that if at the end, when I come to lay down the reins of power, I have lost every other friend on earth, I shall at least have one friend left, and that friend shall be down inside of me”.

From the text, Hezekiah tried to placate the king of Assyria who came to invade the fenced cities of Judah. Instead of his usual approach of relying on the Lord and confronting the enemy, Hezekiah, in fear, settled for negotiation. In a desperate attempt to meet the conditions of peace, he sent to the king of Assyria all the silver found in the house of the Lord and the king’s treasury. Yet, the king of Assyria still came with a large army to invade Jerusalem. The emissaries sent to Judah by the enemy king did not acknowledge whatever was sent by Hezekiah; they instead boasted about the military might of their king and made irreverent remarks about God and His people.

After fourteen years on the throne, Hezekiah forsook his former approach of relying only on God to defend the nation in times of war. He appeared to have accepted a little compromise by negotiating his way out of the predicament. He forgot that the enemy would hunt for the precious soul and would not settle for any gifts.

As believers, we must understand that the devil does not honour agreements. He cannot be trusted to stand by his promises. We must therefore avoid any form of compromise through negotiation with the devil or his cohorts. We must not return to the world or to Egypt for help. There is no agreement between light and darkness, and two parallel lines will never meet. Our God is more than enough to save us.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Satan’s agents cannot be trusted to keep promises.

CAC Living Water Daily Devotional – God, A Keen Watcher

CAC Living Water Daily Devotional

CAC Living Water Daily Devotional | Friday, October 22, 2021 | God, A Keen Watcher

Topic: God, A Keen Watcher

Read: Psalms 66:1-10

Date: Friday, October 22, 2021

Psalms 66:1-10  Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands:

Sing forth the honour of his name: make his praise glorious.

Say unto God, How terrible art thou in thy works! through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee.

All the earth shall worship thee, and shall sing unto thee; they shall sing to thy name. Selah.

Come and see the works of God: he is terrible in his doing toward the children of men.

He turned the sea into dry land: they went through the flood on foot: there did we rejoice in him.

He ruleth by his power for ever; his eyes behold the nations: let not the rebellious exalt themselves. Selah.

O bless our God, ye people, and make the voice of his praise to be heard:

Which holdeth our soul in life, and suffereth not our feet to be moved.

For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried.

MEMORISE:

He rules by His power forever, His eyes observe the nations; do not let the rebellious exalt themselves (Psalms 66:7)

EXPOSITION

Just as God has special interest in individuals, He also watches over nations. The Bible unequivocally informs, ‘The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good’ (Prov. 15:3). God hates oppression. He fights on the side of the oppressed. There is a day of reckoning for defiant oppressors, whether they are individuals, or nations. He has weapons that can clamp and by-pass hi-tech security alarm systems and teardown the fortresses of nations. His weapons are not man-made, but divine and overwhelming.

Nations beware. A day of gloom awaits those who turn away from the fountain of life (Job 36:19). When godless leaders reign, darkness looms. God is a jealous God. Once a nation turns from Him to her own ways and other gods that might include riches, technology, brain, and vain-glory, He begins to warn constantly. He warns through His Word and prophets. He is longsuffering. Therefore, He waits patiently for repentance. When the warnings are not heeded, He sends punitive blows (Job 38:18). Doomed are nations when God is forsaken. All will be on the edge of precipice. It is a terrible thing to fall in the hands of God.

What are you planning to do, today or whenever? Are you sure it is in line with God’s holiness and righteousness? If it is evil, you had better changed your mind. Hope you have not forgotten that you cannot hide from the all-seeing God (Psa. 139:1ff)?

A Japanese car cannot be more advanced than the Japanese manufacturers. No nation can be more advanced than its Maker. Have you been living without God? Have you abandoned your once-cherished loyalty to God. Please and please come back to Him. He will receive you graciously. Remember, God, who is tender, can be simple, can be severe. Do not abuse His longsuffering (Heb. 10:31).

PRAYER POINTS

1. Lord, don’t let me fall into Your hands of wrath.

2. Lord, be merciful on our nation and fight for the oppressed, like You did in the Scripture.

3. Lord, fight for Christians all over the world that are been unjustly massacred by bandits, terrorists, and fundamentalists, with impunity.

TREM Devotional – Don’t Fall For The Devil’s Strategy

Dr. Mike Okonkwo TREM

TREM Devotional 22 October 2021 Daily Devotional By Bishop Mike Okonkwo – Don’t Fall For The Devil’s Strategy

TOPIC: Don’t Fall For The Devil’s Strategy

“And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” Genesis 3:4-5 KJV

God made man a spirit. But the earth was made to function as a material earth. A spirit cannot function without a body on earth since the earth is for material things. God, in His wisdom took the dust of the ground. He formed man, breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul. When man opened his eyes, his first contact was God. So as long as man saw God and saw that he was like God, he would dominate the world. God in essence was saying, “I made you and I alone have the right to define you. Any other opinion is a lie. You are like me. You have authority like me. Stay connected to me and you will fulfill purpose.”

Note that Adam never did anything special for God to make him in His image. It was God’s idea that he will be made in His image. The tragedy of the fall is that the devil came and said to Adam: “Has God said? Don’t believe what God told you. Eat the fruit because when you eat it, you will be like God.”

Do you know the devil still uses the same strategy today? Every time you attempt to do something in order to become who you already ar or you attempt to do something in order to qualify for what God gave to you freely, then you are functioning in the arena of deception. I guarantee that the devil will defeat you because that’s his specialty. Everything you are struggling to become, you already are.

A spiritual man cannot be trapped. You can’t stop him and you can’t destroy him. You are unkillable because you are a spiritual man. When the enemy is planning to trap you here, you will appear from another place.

Seeds Of Destiny Devotional – Dealing With Mountainous Situations Of Life

Paul Enenche

Dunamis’ Seeds Of Destiny 22 October 2021 Devotional By Dr. Paul Enenche — Dealing With Mountainous Situations Of Life

TOPIC: Dealing With Mountainous Situations Of Life

There is no mountainous situation of your life that the Word of God cannot remove.

SCRIPTURE: And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Matthew 17:20.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: There is no mountainous situation of your life that the Word of God cannot remove.

One day, Jesus went to the mountain of transfiguration with Peter, James and John. On his return, he met an emergency – a child who was being tormented by the devil. The evil spirit caused the child to convulse, and often threw him into water and fire.

The father of the child came to meet the disciples to cast out the evil spirit but they could not cast out the evil spirit. When Jesus arrived, He rebuked them for their faithlessness and inability to cast out that devil from the child. Jesus’ disciples came to Him later and asked why they could not cast out the devil and deliver the boy.

Jesus replied and said: “It was because of your unbelief, but if you can have faith like the grain of mustard seed; you will say to this mountain…” (paraphrased). (He was literally referring to the mountain they had just come down from) (Matthew 17:14-21).

In my opinion, Jesus was telling them, “You shall tell mountains, like this condition of epilepsy, to be removed or depart and go to another place and they will obey you, and nothing shall be impossible to you.”

Beloved, mountains are removable. There is no mountainous situation of your life that the Word of God cannot remove. There is no negative issue or challenge of life that God cannot dissolve.

Today, I decree the immediate removal of every mountain before you and your loved ones in Jesus’ Name.

Remember this: There is no mountainous situation of your life that the Word of God cannot remove.

ASSIGNMENTS:

  1. Ask God to deal with every mountainous situation in your life.
  2. Command evil mountains around you to move by the Word of God in your mouth.

PRAYER: Lord, I thank You for showing me the possibility of moving mountains. I decree the dissolution of every mountainous situation of my life, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

DCLM Daily Manna – Limited Power Of Great Men

Pastor W. F. Kumuyi

DCLM Daily Manna 22 October 2021 Devotional By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Limited Power Of Great Men

TOPIC: Limited Power Of Great Men

TEXT: Ezekiel 17:1-10

1 And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,

2 Son of man, put forth a riddle, and speak a parable unto the house of Israel;

3 And say, Thus saith the Lord God; A great eagle with great wings, longwinged, full of feathers, which had divers colours, came unto Lebanon, and took the highest branch of the cedar:

4 He cropped off the top of his young twigs, and carried it into a land of traffick; he set it in a city of merchants.

5 He took also of the seed of the land, and planted it in a fruitful field; he placed it by great waters, and set it as a willow tree.

6 And it grew, and became a spreading vine of low stature, whose branches turned toward him, and the roots thereof were under him: so it became a vine, and brought forth branches, and shot forth sprigs.

7 There was also another great eagle with great wings and many feathers: and, behold, this vine did bend her roots toward him, and shot forth her branches toward him, that he might water it by the furrows of her plantation.

8 It was planted in a good soil by great waters, that it might bring forth branches, and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a goodly vine.

9 Say thou, Thus saith the Lord God; Shall it prosper? shall he not pull up the roots thereof, and cut off the fruit thereof, that it wither? it shall wither in all the leaves of her spring, even without great power or many people to pluck it up by the roots thereof.

10 Yea, behold, being planted, shall it prosper? shall it not utterly wither, when the east wind toucheth it? it shall wither in the furrows where it grew.

KEY VERSE: “Say thou, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Shall it prosper? shall he not pull up the roots thereof, and cut off the fruit thereof, that it wither? it shall wither in all the leaves of her spring, even without great power or many people to pluck it up by the roots thereof.” – (Ezekiel 17:9)

MESSAGE:

Human history has shown how great men have lived and acted as if they were all in all. They possess, prosper and spread their empires as if no one could question or stop them.

This parable paints the picture of some of the powerful kingdoms that took Judah in captivity but forgot that God was only using them as instruments to punish the Jewish nation. They behaved as if their power and skill had given them the victory over God’s people. They were deceived by their speedy victory, prosperity and success which brought them great influence and fame! In their privileged position and power, they oppressed, afflicted and tortured their subjects. Their manner of rulership was devoid of honour and reverence for God.

God is Master and King over all. He controls and reigns over the whole universe, hence men should tread in awe, fear and reverence irrespective of whom or what they are. He gives all the privileges, prosperity and success that we have. Thus, we must always recognise this so that we can remain humble.

When man behaves and acts as if there is no God over the universe, He shows up in wrath, judgment and punishment. The only guarantee of continual privileges, prosperity and happiness is to acknowledge God and give Him the first place in our hearts. We should honour and reverence Him always and make Him the Lord of our lives.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
He who owns and gives the privileges, prosperity and power can take it away by the wind.

DCLM Daily Manna – No Syncretism In Worship

Pastor W. F. Kumuyi

DCLM Daily Manna 20 October 2021 Devotional By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — No Syncretism In Worship

TOPIC: No Syncretism In Worship

TEXT: 2 Kings 17:24-41

24 And the king of Assyria brought men from Babylon, and from Cuthah, and from Ava, and from Hamath, and from Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel: and they possessed Samaria, and dwelt in the cities thereof.

25 And so it was at the beginning of their dwelling there, that they feared not the Lord: therefore the Lord sent lions among them, which slew some of them.

26 Wherefore they spake to the king of Assyria, saying, The nations which thou hast removed, and placed in the cities of Samaria, know not the manner of the God of the land: therefore he hath sent lions among them, and, behold, they slay them, because they know not the manner of the God of the land.

27 Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, Carry thither one of the priests whom ye brought from thence; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the manner of the God of the land.

28 Then one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and dwelt in Bethel, and taught them how they should fear the Lord.

29 Howbeit every nation made gods of their own, and put them in the houses of the high places which the Samaritans had made, every nation in their cities wherein they dwelt.

30 And the men of Babylon made Succothbenoth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima,

31 And the Avites made Nibhaz and Tartak, and the Sepharvites burnt their children in fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim.

32 So they feared the Lord, and made unto themselves of the lowest of them priests of the high places, which sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places.

33 They feared the Lord, and served their own gods, after the manner of the nations whom they carried away from thence.

34 Unto this day they do after the former manners: they fear not the Lord, neither do they after their statutes, or after their ordinances, or after the law and commandment which the Lord commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel;

35 With whom the Lord had made a covenant, and charged them, saying, Ye shall not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them:

36 But the Lord, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great power and a stretched out arm, him shall ye fear, and him shall ye worship, and to him shall ye do sacrifice.

37 And the statutes, and the ordinances, and the law, and the commandment, which he wrote for you, ye shall observe to do for evermore; and ye shall not fear other gods.

38 And the covenant that I have made with you ye shall not forget; neither shall ye fear other gods.

39 But the Lord your God ye shall fear; and he shall deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies.

40 Howbeit they did not hearken, but they did after their former manner.

41 So these nations feared the Lord, and served their graven images, both their children, and their children’s children: as did their fathers, so do they unto this day.

KEY VERSE: “So they feared the LORD, and made unto themselves of the lowest of them priests of the high places, which sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places…and served their own gods, after the manner of the nations whom they carried away from thence” (2 KINGS 17:32, 33).

MESSAGE:

One of the glaring effects of globalisation is the gradual fusion of different cultures, beliefs and lifestyles into one. These days, we are also beginning to see a mixture and fusion of different religions. For instance, “Chrislam,” a movement which is a blend of Christianity and Islam, is becoming a popular movement in Nigeria and the United States.

The leaders of the Assyrian nation which conquered Israel came face to face with the harsh realities of the consequences of syncretism in worship – that is, mixing up idol worship with the worship of the true God. After the nation of Israel had been carried away from their land as a result of their sins, the Assyrians who conquered them brought other nations to occupy their lands. These new occupants of the land of Israel brought with them their various idols. Though they appeared to be worshipping God, they did not give up their idol worship. This provoked God and moved Him to visit them with judgment. God cannot be placed side by side with idols.

There are people who claim to have been converted to Christianity from their former religions but still bring some of the elements of their former beliefs into the faith and church. There are even some churches today that have imported some practices from heathen religions into their worship styles. One is not surprised then when these so-called believers keep complaining of satanic attacks, afflictions from their ancestral pasts as well as other strange experiences.

True believers must ensure a complete and total break from their past. If you are truly born again and have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, He alone must be the One you worship. There must not be a divided loyalty between Christ and other gods. You must be willing to make a clean break from all your former belief systems.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
You cannot serve God and mammon!
