DCLM Daily Manna – Be A Lily

Topic: Be A Lily [Sunday November 19, 2017]

Text: Jeremiah 23:9-22

Key Verse: “For the land is full of adulterers; for because of swearing the land mourneth; the pleasant places of the wilderness are dried up, and their course is evil, and their force is not right”(Jeremiah 23:10).

The key verse in today’s text speaks about the land being full of spiritual adulterers. These were those who had given themselves over to idols. They even brought the idols into the temple in Jerusalem. Thus, the false prophets in Jerusalem were forcing the people to conform to their folly in reference to the idols. These full-time religious leaders preached for gain and led the people to commit spiritual adultery with false gods.

So, God lamented the spiritual state of Israel and how the people had allowed themselves to be overtaken by all manner of sins. He was particularly disappointed that even the prophets and priests were also profane in their conducts. Evil has taken hold of many societies so badly that vices have become a way of life. All manner of abominable things are happening within and around us and the shocking part of it all is that such things are found right within Christendom.

They have so become a way of life that it has become a pastime of people to advertise openly and proudly too that they travel that pernicious way. The Bible encourages those who know their God, to be strong and do more exploits. If people could be salvaged from Sodom and Gomorrah, however few, it means that God is still capable of saving souls and preserving them till the end no matter the level of depravity in the world.

Thought for the day: God’s grace is sufficient for us.
