Read: Judges 16:17-25

Judges 16:17-25  That he told her all his heart, and said unto her, There hath not come a razor upon mine head; for I have been a Nazarite unto God from my mother’s womb: if I be shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man.

And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, Come up this once, for he hath shewed me all his heart. Then the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and brought money in their hand.

And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him.

And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him.

But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house.

Howbeit the hair of his head began to grow again after he was shaven.

Then the lords of the Philistines gathered them together for to offer a great sacrifice unto Dagon their god, and to rejoice: for they said, Our god hath delivered Samson our enemy into our hand.

And when the people saw him, they praised their god: for they said, Our god hath delivered into our hands our enemy, and the destroyer of our country, which slew many of us.

And it came to pass, when their hearts were merry, that they said, Call for Samson, that he may make us sport. And they called for Samson out of the prison house; and he made them sport: and they set him between the pillars.

MEMORISE:

And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living (Luke 15:13)

EXPOSITION

Squanderer is someone who loses an advantage, or opportunity through negligence, or inaction. He is a waster of precious inheritance handed over to him by the one who had laboured, or worked hard for it. He is a person who placed less, or no value on what is given unto him. A squanderer has a carefree attitude towards a precious gift from others.

God has given every believer an inheritance in Christ Jesus – Salvation. This we do not labour – or work for. It costs nothing but it is handed unto us on the platter of gold. Our salvation cost God His only begotten Son, Christ and Christ, died shameful and agonized death on the Cross. This He gave absolutely free to us. So many believers have traded their precious and priceless inheritance with worldly pleasures from the devil, the enemy of our souls.

An old man once sold all his assets acquired through hard labour and bought a precious gold which he gave to his son for him to keep, until he is old enough to be appointed and crowned a king. One day, while travelling on the sea, he carelessly handled the gold and it fell into the ocean and all he could do was to watch it go down the ocean.

Many believers today are fast losing their inheritance to wrong association (1 Cor. 15:33), love of the world (1 John 2:15-17), fame, etc.

Samson did not work for the victory which he was to have over the Philistines, the enemy of God’s people, but was to be given to him by God of Israel. He missed the great opportunity through the choices he made and died with the enemies of God. Our choices will determine if the inheritance handed over to us by Christ Jesus will be utilised, or squandered.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Help us O Lord as believers to guide jealously the inheritance handed over to us by Christ Jesus.

2. Revive our Church Holy Spirit divine, cause us to go back to our first love handed over to us by our Fathers in faith.

3. Pray for our spiritual leaders that they will not mislead us but guide us according to the leading and dictate of the Holy Spirit.
