DCLM Daily Manna 10 June 2023 Devotional By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Are You In That Number?

TOPIC: Are You In That Number? (DCLM Daily Manna 10 June 2023)

KEY VERSE: “All these which were chosen to be porters in the gates were two hundred and twelve. These were reckoned by their genealogy in their villages, whom David and Samuel the seer did ordain in their set office” (1 Chronicles 9:22).

TEXT: 1 Chronicles 9:14-22 (KJV)

14 And of the Levites; Shemaiah the son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, of the sons of Merari;

15 And Bakbakkar, Heresh, and Galal, and Mattaniah the son of Micah, the son of Zichri, the son of Asaph;

16 And Obadiah the son of Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun, and Berechiah the son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, that dwelt in the villages of the Netophathites.

17 And the porters were, Shallum, and Akkub, and Talmon, and Ahiman, and their brethren: Shallum was the chief;

18 Who hitherto waited in the king’s gate eastward: they were porters in the companies of the children of Levi.

19 And Shallum the son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his brethren, of the house of his father, the Korahites, were over the work of the service, keepers of the gates of the tabernacle: and their fathers, being over the host of the Lord, were keepers of the entry.

20 And Phinehas the son of Eleazar was the ruler over them in time past, and the Lord was with him.

21 And Zechariah the son of Meshelemiah was porter of the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

22 All these which were chosen to be porters in the gates were two hundred and twelve. These were reckoned by their genealogy in their villages, whom David and Samuel the seer did ordain in their set office.

MESSAGE:

It is not uncommon to see people live in a compound or community where they are unknown or noted for nothing positive. In the spiritual realm, some people are complacent, detached and unavailable for any contribution. They make themselves non-existent even though they are physically available. God takes the record daily and will require it at the end of time.

Today’s passage is filled with a list of individuals and families that were assigned divine tasks with a detailed record of their faithfulness. A very exciting feature is where father and sons were addicted to God’s work as in the case of the Korahites. Phinehas, the son of Eleazar the priest took after his father as he was also a ruler and the Lord was with him. All listed officials “were reckoned by their genealogy in their villages” and remained as were ordained by King David and Prophet Samuel.

There are salient lessons from this record. First, the people made themselves available for God’s service. Second, each remained faithful and dutiful in his assignment. Third, whole families were involved in certain instances. Fourth, they remained faithful even when David and Samuel who appointed them were no more available.

The situation in the society and in the church today is different. Some people prefer their children to be prominent in secular areas of life. Parents are not only lethargic in God’s work but also tacitly shield their children from being involved. Christ sees and takes record, and He would reward everyone according as his work shall be on the day of reckoning.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
What will you be remembered for?
