1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,

5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

MESSAGE:

Joni Eareckson Tada born in 1949 became a quadriplegic at the age of 17 after a diving accident left her paralyzed from the neck down. Despite the challenges of living with a disability, Joni’s faith in God remained unwavering. She founded Joni and Friends, an organization dedicated to providing support and resources to people with disabilities. Through her ministry, writing, and speaking engagements, Joni has inspired countless individuals to find strength and purpose in their trials through faith in Christ. Her life thus shows that regardless of the challenges believers may face, our faith DNA has been configured for victory.

This assurance resonates profoundly in Apostle Peter’s message of comfort and assurance in response to the news of the intense persecutions and sufferings facing early Christian communities and dispersed believers in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia. Our text also throws more light on our calling and identity in Christ, which stands as the sure foundation for our conviction, triumph as Christians called, and chosen by grace.

Peter’s emphasis on the resurrection of Jesus Christ reassures believers and reminds us that the doctrine of resurrection is central to the Christian faith. It signifies victory over sin and death, offering believers hope that transcends our present challenges and earthly circumstances. As we endure persecutions and sufferings in this world for the sake of Christ, the passage talks about the garlands of our triumphs, our incorruptible and eternal inheritance reserved in heaven for us. This inheritance is described as imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, thus highlighting the eternal nature of the blessings awaiting believers in the presence of God.

As we face the reality of the end-time, we can draw comfort and assurance from this passage that no matter the difficulties that confront us, we are kept by the power of God through faith. This assurance is not based on human effort but on the faithfulness of God.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Christ’s abiding presence and comfort strengthen us in trials and persecutions.
