MESSAGE:
Jimmy Carter once applied for nuclear submarine programme while serving in the American Navy. In the course of interviewing him for the job, the legendary Admiral Hyman Rickover asked, “How did you stand in your class at the Naval Academy?” Carter proudly answered, “Sir, I stood fifty-ninth in a class of 820”. Then came another question, “Did you do your best?” The former president’s “Yes, sir” changed to “No, sir, I didn’t always do my best” when he gave a moment to reflect on his lack of commitment.
Today’s passage gives an account of how Jehoash at seven began to reign, and seeing the state of the temple, directed the priests to repair the breaches of the house of God. Unfortunately, the priest did not carry out this instruction until the twenty-third year when the king queried them. However, Johoiada the priest designed a special chest which was placed by the alter of sacrifice for collection. This worked and generous contributions were received which were ploughed into the repair project. Fortunately, the men into whose hands they delivered the money to be paid as workmen were more committed and faithful. These men’s positions in the house of God were not given, yet they dealt with the workers faithfully.
All believers without exception have been set apart for God’s holy use. Working for God is a special privilege which God accords His children. He requires our total commitment, faithfulness and absolute surrender. God’s dual ownership of us compels us to yield our all–time, talents and treasures–in joyful service to Him and in furtherance of His holy cause.
Being faithful in the little committed to us qualifies us for greater privilege of service. God rewards those who faithfully serve Him. In whatever position or assignment given us in the household of faith, we must be faithful, rendering account whether demanded or not.
Thought For The Day: Faithfulness drives God to action.
