DCLM Daily Manna – Deadly Anger

DCLM Daily Manna

DCLM Daily Manna 3 July 2021 Devotional By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Deadly Anger

TOPIC: Deadly Anger

TEXT: Matthew 5:21-26

21 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:

22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;

24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

25 Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.

26 Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.

KEY VERSE: “But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment… but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire” (MATTHEW 5:22).

MESSAGE:

A young couple had had a feud one evening. lt was started by an angry wife who was concerned the husband was coming too late and overworking himself. The disagreement was not resolved before the couple went to sleep. According to the wife, when the husband came home that night he was a mess; she had never seen him so exhausted. She could not stand seeing him like that and she got angry and asked her husband to sleep on the sofa. She woke up the next morning to find him dead where he had lain.

Today’s reading is very instructive of God’s command and stance on anger. Jesus revealed that anger is the leading cause of murder and other odious crimes in our interpersonal relationships. Most people have gone to untimely graves because of unbridled anger. Marriages, families, careers and other life-changing opportunities have all been lost as a result of not being able to control that monster within – anger. It has no doubt caused more harm than good.

Christ came into the world to save man and help him live a good life. He counselled that we should deal with disagreements and reconcile with others before coming to worship Him with our gifts. Anger can stop and sour our religious worship and relationships. God appreciates a clean and clear heart filled with love and regard for others rather than sacrifices filled with bottled-up anger and animosity. We can get a permanent cure for anger as we take our natural heart to God in penitent prayers and genuine repentance.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
