TOPIC: Divine Stamp Of Approval (DCLM Daily Manna 7 April 2024)
KEY VERSE: “And there came a fire out from before the LORD, and consumed upon the altar the burnt offering and the fat: which when all the people saw, they shouted, and fell on their faces” (Leviticus 9:24).
TEXT: Leviticus 9:17-24 (KJV)
17 And he brought the meat offering, and took an handful thereof, and burnt it upon the altar, beside the burnt sacrifice of the morning.
18 He slew also the bullock and the ram for a sacrifice of peace offerings, which was for the people: and Aaron’s sons presented unto him the blood, which he sprinkled upon the altar round about,
19 And the fat of the bullock and of the ram, the rump, and that which covereth the inwards, and the kidneys, and the caul above the liver:
20 And they put the fat upon the breasts, and he burnt the fat upon the altar:
21 And the breasts and the right shoulder Aaron waved for a wave offering before the Lord; as Moses commanded.
22 And Aaron lifted up his hand toward the people, and blessed them, and came down from offering of the sin offering, and the burnt offering, and peace offerings.
23 And Moses and Aaron went into the tabernacle of the congregation, and came out, and blessed the people: and the glory of the Lord appeared unto all the people.
24 And there came a fire out from before the Lord, and consumed upon the altar the burnt offering and the fat: which when all the people saw, they shouted, and fell on their faces.
MESSAGE:
Sacrifice is an act through which the blood and flesh of an animal are offered to God in the Old Testament. Some of the offerings we prescribed then were sin offering, the peace offering, the burnt offering, the grain offering and so on. Everyone was expected to make sacrifice in Israel, including their priests. It is noteworthy to observe from the text that the sacrifice the priest offered was on behalf of himself and his sons. It was still needful that Aaron should offer sacrifice for his own sin before undertaking for others. The offerings of Aaron were made in faith and total obedience to God.
The animal sacrifice was not perfect since “it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins” (Hebrews 10:2,4). They symbolically pointed to the fact that people were obligated to present another life in place of their own. This clearly pointed to the ultimate Substitute and sin-Bearer, Jesus Christ our Lord, who was sinless but died for the sins of the world.
God is pleased when we act in obedience to His commandments. When the children of Israel acted in accordance with His revealed will concerning offerings and sacrifices in the Old Testament, the glory of God appeared to confirm His acceptance and approval.
The finite mind of man was not made to comprehend the ramifying provisions through which God has made a substitutionary atonement for the sins of mankind. Yet, what our cognitive elements cannot absorb, He expects us to accept by faith.
So, repent and confess your sins to God; for “if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:9,10).
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Obedience is far better than sacrifice.
