Topic: Fed From Heaven [DCLM Daily Manna 1 August 2019 Daily Devotional]
Text: Exodus 16:32-36 (KJV)
32 And Moses said, This is the thing which the LORD commandeth, Fill an omer of it to be kept for your generations; that they may see the bread wherewith I have fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you forth from the land of Egypt.
33 And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a pot, and put an omer full of manna therein, and lay it up before the LORD, to be kept for your generations.
34 As the LORD commanded Moses, so Aaron laid it up before the Testimony, to be kept.
35 And the children of Israel did eat manna forty years, until they came to a land inhabited; they did eat manna, until they came unto the borders of the land of Canaan.
36 Now an omer is the tenth part of an ephah.
Key Verse: “And the children of Israel did eat manna forty years until they came to a land inhabited…” (Exodus 16:35a).
MESSAGE:
Sometime in May 2018, pictures circulated in the social media showing multitudes of fish instead of rain, falling from the sky on the streets of a particular Asian city. Men were seen busy gathering heaps of fish into containers. Though no explanation was given for such strange occurrence, someone said he believed it was a form of “manna” from God for that city.
Moses, as directed by God, had instructed Aaron the high priest to take a pot and fill it with manna to be kept for a memorial so that future generations of the children of Israel would be able to see the manna with which God fed them for forty years in the wilderness.
God’s sovereign power was clearly displayed so that the children of Israel would not be in doubt as to the great power of Jehovah. Besides the various miracles He performed, including those of judgment against Pharaoh and the Egyptians, and how He divided the Red Sea, He also gave them water from the rock when they were thirsty. However, the children of Israel failed to appreciate the ways of God and kept on provoking Him by their constant complaints and murmuring.
As believers, regardless of the harsh economic situations we are facing today, our complete confidence must be on the promises of God. As we believe and confess this truth regularly, our God will respond by granting the desire of His people. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. As He fed thousands of people, so will He supply our needs according to His riches in glory, by Christ Jesus. He promises never to leave nor forsake us. He that spared not His own Son but gave Him to die for our sins has also with Him freely given us all things.
Thought For The Day: Jehovah Jireh provides for His own.
