DCLM Daily Manna – God Is Our Portion

Pastor W. F. Kumuyi

DCLM Daily Manna 4 March 2022 Devotional By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — God Is Our Portion

TOPIC: God Is Our Portion

TEXT: Psalm 16:1-11 (KJV)

1 Preserve me, O God: for in thee do I put my trust.

2 O my soul, thou hast said unto the Lord, Thou art my Lord: my goodness extendeth not to thee;

3 But to the saints that are in the earth, and to the excellent, in whom is all my delight.

4 Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god: their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take up their names into my lips.

5 The Lord is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot.

6 The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.

7 I will bless the Lord, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.

8 I have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope.

10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

KEY VERSE: “The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot.” – (Psalm 16:5)

MESSAGE:

Moses rehearsed this truth to the hearing of Israel in the wilderness that “the LORD’S portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance” (Deuteronomy 32:9). Every Israelite was meant to know and appreciate the fact that all he or she needs in life is concealed in their ‘treasure chest’, which is Jehovah, their God. None was to seek any help or wealth outside this commonwealth of Israel.

The priests were to have no agricultural land in Israel and they were not to engage in any other profession or occupation, or any other servile work, but concentrate in the service of the Lord in the tabernacle. By this ordinance, the Levites were to be sustained from the tithes of the agricultural produce gathered from other farming tribes. Few people were to be fed and maintained by a large population of faithful worshipers of God.

The principle still operates today but in a modified form. All believers in Christ, who trust that the Lord is capable of providing all their needs according to His riches in glory, actually have their needs met by the Lord. Whereas, those who doubt God’s word and engage in clandestine vocations and activities, those who join the crowd of unbelievers in their questionable practices, often pay a high price.

Like Achan and other sons of Belial in the Bible, they will soon face summary judgment if they do not abandon their evil ways. We should know that only the just shall live by faith while those who draw back, do so to their own peril.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Trust God and get paid handsomely.

THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Jeremiah 1-2
