Topic: Help From God [DCLM Daily Manna 13 December 2019 Daily Devotional By Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]
Text: Psalms 102:1-12
1 (A Prayer of the afflicted, when he is overwhelmed, and poureth out his complaint before the LORD.) Hear my prayer, O LORD, and let my cry come unto thee.
2 Hide not thy face from me in the day when I am in trouble; incline thine ear unto me: in the day when I call answer me speedily.
3 For my days are consumed like smoke, and my bones are burned as an hearth.
4 My heart is smitten, and withered like grass; so that I forget to eat my bread.
5 By reason of the voice of my groaning my bones cleave to my skin.
6 I am like a pelican of the wilderness: I am like an owl of the desert.
7 I watch, and am as a sparrow alone upon the house top.
8 Mine enemies reproach me all the day; and they that are mad against me are sworn against me.
9 For I have eaten ashes like bread, and mingled my drink with weeping,
10 Because of thine indignation and thy wrath: for thou hast lifted me up, and cast me down.
11 My days are like a shadow that declineth; and I am withered like grass.
12 But thou, O LORD, shalt endure for ever; and thy remembrance unto all generations.
Key Verse: “Hide not thy face from me in the day when I am in trouble; incline thine ear unto me: in the day when I call answer me speedily” – (Psalms 102:2).
MESSAGE:
Life for the Christian is a running battle with many conflicts. However, the beautiful side of this narrative is that the God of heaven secures the trusting Christian victories in all the conflicts.
The life and experiences of David exemplifies this fact as he fought hundreds of battles without defeat. Our text reveals the natural response and prayer of an afflicted believer overwhelmed with grief and sorrow. To ask the Lord to draw near and answer his prayer speedily is a commendable thing a trusting soul should do. This shows the level of confidence, love and fellowship that existed in the relationship, which produced this boldness in a critical time as this.
The experiences of believers today who show despair in the face of life’s challenges reveal that they do not have a meaningful relationship with the Lord that can inspire absolute trust and confidence in Him. As such, many turn to self-help or embrace ungodly alternatives, instead of praying and exercising personal faith in the Lord for victory. The truth is that these never find permanent solutions to their problems.
How we need to live and maintain transparent and holy lives as warranty for the release of needed help from the throne of grace. The Psalmist knew that there was enduring mercy with our God. Hence his remarks, “But thou, O LORD, shalt endure for ever; and thy remembrance unto all generations” (Psalm 102:12). We must be absolutely positive in our prayer and relationship with God. This is the best way to relate with our God as believers. Yes, they that do know their God shall be strong and do exploits.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: When my soul is overwhelmed within me, I will run to the Rock of my salvation.
