DCLM Daily Manna – Just Like The Master

Pastor Kumuyi

DCLM Daily Manna 9 December 2024 Devotional By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Just Like The Master

TOPIC: Just Like The Master (DCLM Daily Manna 9 December 2024)

KEY VERSE: “It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household?” (Matthew 10:25).

TEXT: Matthew 10:22-25 (KJV)

22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come.

24 The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord.

25 It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household?

MESSAGE:

There are two unforgettable cases of persons in the Bible who tragically failed the test to be like their masters. In the Old Testament, Gehazi walked contrary to the ideals of his lord, Prophet Elisha. Whereas Elisha had his focus on heaven and disavowed materialism, Gehazi lusted after those things rejected by his mentor. In the New Testament, Demas replicated the sad story of Gehazi. He forsook Apostle Paul, “having loved this present world.”

The perfect perspective is offered by the perfect Master, Jesus Christ. He says the disciple should look no further than his master for mentorship, just as school pupils look up to their tutors and mentors. It suffices to be like the master, for, in faithfully following his counsel, the servant is positioned to attain the height reached by his master.

The Lord created man in His image and it is only logical that the creature should be like his Maker. The Lord planned to bring up man to His divine level. But our departure from that path when man fell for the serpent’s lie truncated the programme. Disciples who break their link with their masters are destined for grief. Israel forsook the laws of Jehovah and suffered ridicule, shame and captivity.

We should apply this scriptural principle in the church as we relate with leadership. God has given us diligent pastors and teachers who do not hesitate to share with us what heaven reveals to them in the Scriptures. We must take to their teachings on Christ. As we do, we shall be armed with His virtues of endurance and courage in the face of persecution and hateful, disparaging remarks. If we follow His footsteps, we will also triumph.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Those who look away from the Master sink in the sea of misery.
