Topic: Know Your Priority [Thursday June 28, 2018]
Text: Acts 26:13-29 (KJV)
Key Verse: “To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me” (Acts 26:18).
MESSAGE:
Changing the Guard at Windsor Castle provides a colourful spectacle as the guards, usually led by a Regimental Band, march from Victoria Barracks to the castle. You will need tickets for Windsor Castle as Changing the Guard takes place inside the castle precincts. But mounting an honour guard at Buckingham Palace is not the core of army duties. The armed forces of every country have the priority to secure the territory of the nation and provide security to the citizens. Their most important duty is to dab their camouflages, pick only the essential items and move into the battlefield.
The purpose of Apostle Paul’s calling and his priority was so clear to him that he was ever ready to narrate it without referring to his notes. He spoke about it when he was on trial before King Agrippa and Festus, the Roman governor, with utmost conviction – turning his defence into an opportunity to preach the Word. His lifetime purpose was to open the eyes of sinners through the gospel and to turn them from darkness unto light; from the power of Satan unto God. His commitment to fulfilling what he referred to as “the heavenly vision”, occupied him for the rest of his life.
The gospel of the kingdom must be preached for a witness to all nations before the end would come (Matthew 24:14). This involves both local and foreign missionary outreaches to every unreached people of the world.
Unfortunately, most believers today appear to have lost their commitment to the heavenly vision of reaching lost sinners because their attention is drawn away by festivities in the world. Some of these events, though not sinful in themselves, have robbed believers of precious time to concentrate on the most important duty. It is time to go back to our most basic priority – preaching the gospel to the lost.
Thought For The Day: Do not focus on a good or even better activity, while the best is left undone.
