DCLM Daily Manna 7 November 2023 Devotional By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Observing The Goodness Of God
TOPIC: Observing The Goodness Of God (DCLM Daily Manna 7 November 2023)
KEY VERSE: “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High” (Psalm 92:1).
TEXT: Psalm 92:1-15 (KJV)
1 It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O Most High:
2 To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night,
3 Upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn sound.
4 For thou, Lord, hast made me glad through thy work: I will triumph in the works of thy hands.
5 O Lord, how great are thy works! and thy thoughts are very deep.
6 A brutish man knoweth not; neither doth a fool understand this.
7 When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed for ever:
8 But thou, Lord, art most high for evermore.
9 For, lo, thine enemies, O Lord, for, lo, thine enemies shall perish; all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered.
10 But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil.
11 Mine eye also shall see my desire on mine enemies, and mine ears shall hear my desire of the wicked that rise up against me.
12 The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
13 Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God.
14 They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing;
15 To shew that the Lord is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.
MESSAGE:
At each stage of the wonderful creation process, the Lord assessed the work of His hands and, according to the Bible, “God saw that it was good”. At the end of it all, “God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good”. An observant Creator did not hesitate to rejoice at the good things around Him.
The psalmist here challenges us to be like our Maker. Inspired to compose these lines, he says, “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High”. The writer is not just a giver of precepts; he goes ahead to praise the Lord for He “hast made me glad through thy work…” adding, “I will triumph in the works of thy hands”. He gives credit to the Lord for his victory over his enemies and for empowering the righteous for fruitful service in old age.
Reputed to have been put together as a song for the Sabbath day, this psalm is a reflection on the great indescribable work God has done in the life of man. The lesson is that gathering to worship God in the church, home, school, office or marketplace should be a time to celebrate His goodness. “It is a good thing …to shew that the LORD is upright…and there is no unrighteousness in him”.
Despite the dreary and volatile environment worldwide, with reports of wars, violence and instability featuring in every news item, it is impossible to look around and not find what to thank God for. We should bless the Lord for the church of God and the gospel of Christ, which continues to offer us hope that the Almighty is standing by to step into our situation for a lasting solution to all our challenges. We should thank God for having Christ in whose name we pray and receive answers to our prayers.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
The ungrateful heart is an abomination to God.
