DCLM Daily Manna 2 October 2021 Devotional By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Pass It On
TOPIC: Pass It On
TEXT: Psalm 78:1-9
1 Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth.
2 I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:
3 Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.
4 We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.
5 For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:
6 That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children:
7 That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:
8 And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God.
9 The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.
KEY VERSE: “We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.” – (Psalm 78:4)
MESSAGE:
Susanna Wesley considered it her primary vocation to instil a clear pattern of Christian devotion in her children. The interesting thing about them is that the primary spiritual influence in their lives up until their death was their mother. She instructed them in the basics of the faith, taught them to read and reason, and to live out a practical Christian life. She encouraged them in self-examination, prayer and charity. She also served as a type of soul friend to whom some of her adult children turned even as adults.
It is very important to pass on the legacy of true worship and righteousness to our children. If we fail to teach our children, they will go astray. The psalmist encouraged the elders who had heard and known about the wonderful works and the praises of our God to make it known to their children. The aim is for the children to set their hope in God so they will not be influenced by the stubborn and rebellious generation whose ways are not right with God.
The Bible admonishes, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6). They need the truth about how the void and emptiness in the heart of man cannot be filled with the pleasures of this world. They must know about morality, God’s justice system and the eternal destiny of man, in hell fire or heaven. This will prevent them from going astray.
We cannot blame our children for imbibing violence and wickedness if we do not painstakingly and deliberately show and teach them the way of the Lord.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Teach your children the right ways and save yourself many years of regret.
THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
