DCLM Daily Manna 1 December 2021 Devotional By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Praising God
TOPIC: Praising God
TEXT: Psalm 113:1-9
1 Praise ye the Lord. Praise, O ye servants of the Lord, praise the name of the Lord.
2 Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time forth and for evermore.
3 From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the Lord’s name is to be praised.
4 The Lord is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens.
5 Who is like unto the Lord our God, who dwelleth on high,
6 Who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth!
7 He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill;
8 That he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people.
9 He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the Lord.
KEY VERSE: “From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD’S name is to be praised.” – (Psalm 113:3)
MESSAGE:
The German composer and musician, Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) remains one of the most important figures in classical music. Here is what he said, “All music should have no other end and aim than the glory of God and the soul’s refreshment; where this is not remembered, there is no real music but only a devilish hub-bub”. Indeed, God deserves to be praised.
The Psalm in today’s meditation is one of the great hymns of the Jews on their most solemn festivals, particularly at the Passover. It starts and ends with a strident call to praise God.
The Lord particularly takes delight in the praises of His servants who serve Him in Spirit and in truth. We are called to “shew forth the praises of him who hath called [us] out of darkness into his marvellous light” (1 Peter 2:9). Beyond praising Him with our lips, our entire lives should glorify the Lord “from this time forth and for evermore”. This suggests a ceaseless praise in all conditions. He should be praised “from the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same”, from east to west and from north to south. God is to be praised for His glory, greatness, grace and goodness. He is high above heaven and earth, yet He relates with creatures like us and adopts us as His children.
God certainly has been good to you. If you are yet to come into His redemptive provision, why not get in today by repenting of your sins and placing your faith in Christ Jesus who paid the price to reconcile us to God? Believers should look away from present challenges and switch to praising God to experience Him more intimately.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
None should praise God louder and longer than the redeemed.
THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Daniel 9-10
