DCLM Daily Manna 1 August 2023 Devotional By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Remember Your Brethren
TOPIC: Remember Your Brethren (DCLM Daily Manna 1 August 2023)
KEY VERSE: “Until the LORD have given your brethren rest, as he hath given you, and they also have possessed the land which the LORD your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto the land of your possession, and enjoy it…” (Joshua 1:15).
TEXT: Joshua 1:10-15 (KJV)
10 Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying,
11 Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the Lord your God giveth you to possess it.
12 And to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to half the tribe of Manasseh, spake Joshua, saying,
13 Remember the word which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, saying, The Lord your God hath given you rest, and hath given you this land.
14 Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle, shall remain in the land which Moses gave you on this side Jordan; but ye shall pass before your brethren armed, all the mighty men of valour, and help them;
15 Until the Lord have given your brethren rest, as he hath given you, and they also have possessed the land which the Lord your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto the land of your possession, and enjoy it, which Moses the Lord’s servant gave you on this side Jordan toward the sunrising.
MESSAGE:
A wealthy businessman lay on his deathbed. His preacher came to visit, talked about God’s healing power and prayed for him. When the preacher was done, the man said, “If God heals me, I’ll give the church a million dollars”. Miraculously, the man got better and was out of the hospital. Several months later, the preacher bumped into him and said, “You know, when you were in the hospital dying, you promised to give the church a million dollars if you got well. We haven’t received it as of yet”. The businessman replied, “Did I say that? I guess that goes to show how sick I really was”.
It is good and honourable as children of God to always remember our promises, both to God and our fellow men. Joshua reminded the tribes of Reuben, Gad and half tribe of Manasseh about the promise they made in the presence of Moses to pass before their brethren and help them to possess their portion of the land (Deuteronomy 32:16-19).
Fulfilling our promises shows our integrity and credibility. God always fulfils His promises to His faithful children; so, believers ought to remember all their promises to fulfil them. We should resemble our heavenly Father in faithfulness, honesty and integrity.
Now, reflect on all the promises you have ever made either to God or man. Are there any you have not fulfilled? If you have conquered your own territory and possessed your own inheritance on earth, remember to assist your brethren that are still on the battlefield. Brethren who are facing vicious battles of life should be encouraged and helped, particularly in providing physical necessities and in prayers.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Make your word your bond.
