DCLM Daily Manna 21 September 2025 Devotional By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Show Compassion With Caution

TOPIC: Show Compassion With Caution (DCLM Daily Manna 21 September 2025)

KEY VERSE: “And of some, have compassion, making a difference: And others, save with fear; pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh” (Jude 1:22,23).

TEXT: Jude 1:20-25 (KJV)

20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
22 And of some have compassion, making a difference:

23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,

25 To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

MESSAGE:

The magazine, Christianity Today gives the following perspective about keeping dangerous animals as pets. “It’s relatively inexpensive to buy and keep a baby lion or tiger-generally comparable to the price of a fine pedigree dog. Tiger cubs are incredibly cute and fun, except that in the space of just a year or two, they become adult tigers weighing several hundred pounds and capable of ripping to shreds and eating their owners. What’s more, tigers are notoriously untamable, fickle beasts, playful one moment and deadly the next, making no distinction between human friends and human enemies.”

Jude concludes his epistle with admonition to believers on the limits they must not exceed while winning the lost because of the possibility of becoming ensnared while trying to save others. Even though a believer is expected to show compassion to all, he must make his personal salvation a top priority. Therefore, as he reaches out in compassion to save others from the fire of hell, he must exercise utmost care so that he does not become entangled with their sins and end up in the same fire. That’s why Jude tells us to “hate” or have a strong aversion to sin – a dislike so strong that it allows absolutely no tolerance for sin. We must keep ourselves in the love of God through unceasing prayers to the Lord who can preserve us till the end.

Some believers, in their simplicity, have taken strangers who claim to be new converts into their homes or congregations, only to end up being seduced, robbed, or even killed by the persons they wanted to help. While seeking to do good to strangers, we must consciously walk in wisdom to preserve our souls. This is because, like the unpredictable tiger, some innocent looking strangers can turn to their true nature and deal a mortal blow to those who are attempting to help them. As much as possible, therefore, soul-winners should only get close to strangers and follow-up converts in a manner that does not jeopardise their Christian profession. Do not hurt yourself while attempting to save others. Be wise! Be warned!

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
To humans and animals, self-preservation is the first rule of living.
