DCLM Daily Manna 3 September 2025 Devotional By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Tested To Completion

TOPIC: Tested To Completion (DCLM Daily Manna 3 September 2025)

KEY VERSE: “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation; for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him” (James 1:12).

TEXT: James 1:1-12 (KJV)

1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.

2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;

3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

9 Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:

10 But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

11 For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

MESSAGE:

“There is not enough darkness in all the world to put out the light of one candle…” This inscription was found on a small gravestone after a devastating air raid on Britain in World War II. Some thought it must be a famous quotation, but it wasn’t. The words were written by a lonely old woman whose pet had been killed by a Nazi bomb. It is a strong message that shows that no amount of evil can subdue the good.

James, the brother of our Lord, wrote to Jewish believers abroad to strengthen their faith in the face of the trials and temptations they were facing. Some members of the church in Jerusalem were uprooted from their homes during the persecution that arose after the death of Stephen (Acts 8:1-4).

Instead of hiding and lamenting, they went everywhere preaching the gospel. Trouble soon came again in their new abode and many were being persecuted by heathen kings and emperors of the Roman provinces and Asia Minor. James, an elder from the church in Jerusalem, wrote to encourage them to patiently endure trials and temptations, describing them as unalterable experiences of every true believer. Some believers are very surprised when they suffer trials. God permits these to glorify His name.

Your trial may not be as grievous as those of other believers in Bible and contemporary times who were tortured and killed for their faith. If the old lonely woman in our introduction today, whose dog was killed were a believer in Christ, the devil would have asked, why God allowed her dog, which was like a child to her, to be killed in that raid.

There are so many things we may not be able to explain on this side of eternity; so many questions we will not be able to find satisfactory answers to. But we know that whatever God allows in our lives is for our good. We must trust in God’s love and good purpose for us in all situations. This will give us the strength to endure all trials and overcome every temptation.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Every trial you overcome makes you more like the Master.
