DCLM Daily Manna 12 February 2023 Devotional By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The Fulfilment Of God’s Law
TOPIC: The Fulfilment Of God’s Law (DCLM Daily Manna 12 February 2023)
KEY VERSE: “Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law” (Romans 13:10).
TEXT: Romans 13:8-14 (KJV)
8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
MESSAGE:
One man asked the Lord Jesus who his neighbour was. The Lord’s response was all-encompassing. One’s neighbour extends beyond spouse, children, blood relations, colleagues, people of the same religious group or ethnic background. They include those you neither share culture, clime, creed nor geographical location with and even those you have never known. They are those who need your help.
Our text teaches on the essence of loving our neighbour to fulfil God’s law. Love does not owe another, commit adultery with another’s spouse, kill, steal, bear false witness or covet others’ properties. True love does not make provision for the flesh. Believers are further encouraged to cast off works of darkness and to put on the armour of Light.
Love is not about emotional disposition. According to a Bible scholar, “Love is a living, active principle of obedience to the whole law”. Obedience starts when you realise your sinfulness and repent, surrendering your life to Christ and taking on His righteousness. Do you know that the whole gamut of love is couched in one word – righteousness?
As we relate with one another, compassion or love should be a major ingredient in our relationships. Christ is our perfect Example of love, which involves giving. He gave salvation, joy, strength, peace, healing, deliverance, prosperity and His Word. He is still giving and will always give. John Wesley admonished believers to “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can”. A redeemed, righteous child of God, living in active obedience to the commandments of God will love and do no ill to his neighbour.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
True love is borne in the wings of obedience to God’s laws.
