DCLM Daily Manna 20 September 2021 Devotional By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The Greatest Inheritance

TOPIC: The Greatest Inheritance (DCLM Daily Manna 20 September 2021)

TEXT: Joshua 13:24-33

24 And Moses gave inheritance unto the tribe of Gad, even unto the children of Gad according to their families.

25 And their coast was Jazer, and all the cities of Gilead, and half the land of the children of Ammon, unto Aroer that is before Rabbah;

26 And from Heshbon unto Ramathmizpeh, and Betonim; and from Mahanaim unto the border of Debir;

27 And in the valley, Betharam, and Bethnimrah, and Succoth, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon, Jordan and his border, even unto the edge of the sea of Chinnereth on the other side Jordan eastward.

28 This is the inheritance of the children of Gad after their families, the cities, and their villages.

29 And Moses gave inheritance unto the half tribe of Manasseh: and this was the possession of the half tribe of the children of Manasseh by their families.

30 And their coast was from Mahanaim, all Bashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all the towns of Jair, which are in Bashan, threescore cities:

31 And half Gilead, and Ashtaroth, and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, were pertaining unto the children of Machir the son of Manasseh, even to the one half of the children of Machir by their families.

32 These are the countries which Moses did distribute for inheritance in the plains of Moab, on the other side Jordan, by Jericho, eastward.

33 But unto the tribe of Levi Moses gave not any inheritance: the Lord God of Israel was their inheritance, as he said unto them.

KEY VERSE: “But unto the tribe of Levi Moses gave not any inheritance: the LORD God of Israel was their inheritance, as he said unto them.” – (Joshua 13:33)

MESSAGE:

Charles Chaplin, who died at age 88, left the United States Senate with four statements, one of which is “Nothing is eternal in this world, not even our problems”. The rate at which known ministers of God are dropping their calling nowadays calls for concern. Some complain that they are not being taken care of by the leadership of their churches; others say that they are losing out so much in the world when compared to the social and financial statuses of their classmates.

The decision of Moses as directed by God to allot no inheritance to the Levites was not a mistake. He knew they had been given a special task and they needed not to be distracted. The tribe of Levi served particular religious duties for the Israelites and had political and educational responsibilities as well. In return, the landed tribes were expected to give tithes to support the Levites. It was expressly stated that “the LORD God of Israel was their inheritance”.

Their job was to minister to the spiritual needs of Israel in teaching and administering sacrifices to God on behalf of the people. They were thus relieved of dealing with the things of the world in order to focus all their attention on the spiritual needs of the nation of Israel. Many believers have not discovered the real essence of their calling, hence the much attachment to the things of the world.

Believers must be careful not to mix spiritual things with worldly pleasure. We must be wary of anything that has the tendency of blighting the call of God on us.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
The world’s inheritance and appeals will all pass away.

THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Proverbs 12-14
