DCLM Daily Manna 4 May 2023 Devotional By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Understanding God’s Precepts
TOPIC: Understanding God’s Precepts (DCLM Daily Manna 4 May 2023)
KEY VERSE: “Make me to understand the way of thy precepts: so shall I talk of thy wondrous works” (Psalm 119:27).
TEXT: Psalm 119:25-32 (KJV)
25 My soul cleaveth unto the dust: quicken thou me according to thy word.
26 I have declared my ways, and thou heardest me: teach me thy statutes.
27 Make me to understand the way of thy precepts: so shall I talk of thy wondrous works.
28 My soul melteth for heaviness: strengthen thou me according unto thy word.
29 Remove from me the way of lying: and grant me thy law graciously.
30 I have chosen the way of truth: thy judgments have I laid before me.
31 I have stuck unto thy testimonies: O Lord, put me not to shame.
32 I will run the way of thy commandments, when thou shalt enlarge my heart.
MESSAGE:
In an ideal society, people follow the leaders they like and understand. They follow their precepts, ideologies, permutations, idiosyncrasies and inclinations. They can defend them boldly in public and canvass their ideals without fear or indistinctness.
The psalmist desired to know God’s statutes in order to follow them to the letter. He wanted to understand His precepts and instructions.
Despite his obvious challenges, which made him experience heaviness of heart, he desired to know God’s laws in order to preach them boldly. He abhorred lying and ways of evildoers. Unlike many, the psalmist was bold to confess that he had chosen the way of the Lord – the way of truth – and he knew that God’s judgment was before him. Being a man willing to do the will of the Almighty, he asked the Lord to teach him His statutes, promising to obey them unto the end.
Obviously, this was an Old Testament prayer. God’s precepts and ways are already contained in the Scriptures for us today. The 66 books of the Bible were written under the guidance and inspiration of the Holy Ghost. No part of the Bible is a mere literary text. Old Testament Scriptures were severally quoted by Jesus, our Master and Saviour, and His disciples. So, as you ask God to teach you His ways, make out time to study the Scriptures, for in them you have eternal life. More so, the Scripture “is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness”.
As you study the Word, remember to ask for the spirit of wisdom and revelation in order to have your understanding enlightened.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
In this world, we can never stop learning from God until we meet Him.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
