DCLM Daily Manna 29 October 2023 Devotional By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — You Too Can Ask

TOPIC: You Too Can Ask (DCLM Daily Manna 29 October 2023)

KEY VERSE: “In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee” (2 Chronicles 1:7).

TEXT: 2 Chronicles 1:7-17 (KJV)

7 In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee.

8 And Solomon said unto God, Thou hast shewed great mercy unto David my father, and hast made me to reign in his stead.

9 Now, O Lord God, let thy promise unto David my father be established: for thou hast made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude.

10 Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this thy people, that is so great?

11 And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king:

12 Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.

13 Then Solomon came from his journey to the high place that was at Gibeon to Jerusalem, from before the tabernacle of the congregation, and reigned over Israel.

14 And Solomon gathered chariots and horsemen: and he had a thousand and four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, which he placed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem.

15 And the king made silver and gold at Jerusalem as plenteous as stones, and cedar trees made he as the sycomore trees that are in the vale for abundance.

16 And Solomon had horses brought out of Egypt, and linen yarn: the king’s merchants received the linen yarn at a price.

17 And they fetched up, and brought forth out of Egypt a chariot for six hundred shekels of silver, and an horse for an hundred and fifty: and so brought they out horses for all the kings of the Hittites, and for the kings of Syria, by their means.

MESSAGE:

Many people see or read of the privileges that other people have and wish that they too can have such. The truth is everyone has the privilege to achieve whatever good thing they desire in life. Everyone has the potential to succeed. The problem, however, is that not everyone recognises this and utilises it. They just allow their opportunities to slip by them and go ahead to live below their potential.

King Solomon had the rarest opportunity in life. He had an open cheque from God to ask whatever he wanted. He could have asked for something material and mundane but that would have limited him and made him like every other ordinary man. He chose to ask for something sublime. He asked for divine wisdom and knowledge, not for himself and personal profit, but for the benefit of the people of God. His request pleased God who not only gave him what he wanted but added far more than he requested.

Our natural reaction to this promise of God to Solomon is to wish we had such promises. Yet, God has given every believer the blank cheque to ask Him whatever they may desire. God has promised and is faithful to His words. The problem for many Christians, however, is not whether they will receive anything when they ask, but whether they will ask at all. And even when they do ask, their request is self-limiting. They ask only for the perishable and the mundane. They ask for things temporary and transient.

Like Solomon, every Christian needs to learn how best to use their opportunities in prayer. We have an inexhaustible well of divine resources before us, from which we can draw whatever we need. Ask for those things that will befit the glory of God and bring blessings to humanity. Ask big and ask in faith. God is standing by to grant whatever we will ask for His glory in faith.
