Topic: Fear Not [TREM Devotional 10 December 2018]
“Fear not; for thou shalt not be ashamed: neither be thou confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy widowhood any more.” – Isaiah 54:4
There are about 365 ‘fear nots’ in the Bible. This is because there are so many things that can make you afraid. The bad thing about fear is its paralyzing effect. When you are afraid, you really cannot do much. That is why God has so many “Fear Nots” in the Bible.
In our scripture for today, God not only tells you not to fear, He gives you a mind-reassuring promise that you shall not be ashamed, neither shall you be confounded. What is confronting you and making you have sleepless night? You have all it takes to stop it today. You have in the Word of God that you will not be confounded. God has your back covered. His mind is full of you. He is interested in your success; your part is to cooperate with Him.
Fear is a torment, don’t let the devil torment you. The popular meaning of fear is so apt: False Evidence Appearing Real. The devil is like a roaring lion; he is not a lion. He makes all the noise to scare you; don’t let him. What the devil is dangling before you is a mirage; it is not real. He does not have the power he makes you think he has. Stand firm in the victory God has already made available to you. You have His word of assurance and His word is good enough for you. He is not a man to lie or the son of man to repent. His Word has all it takes to come to pass. He is totally in control.
Opportunities to fear will come, but when that happens, remind yourself of the promises of God. That was why God said to Joshua in Joshua 1:8 “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but through shalt meditate therein day and night …” Your victory is in the Word, hold on to it.
