Dr. Mike Okonkwo – God Sits On The Mercy Seat

Topic: God Sits On The Mercy Seat [Wednesday October 18, 2017]

“And when Moses was gone into the tabernacle of the congregation to speak with him, then he heard the voice of one speaking unto him from off the mercy seat that was upon the ark of testimony, from between the two cherubims: and he spake unto him.” (Numbers 7:89 KJV)

The Ark of the Covenant was furniture that is like a box. It was a wooden chest clad with gold. Inside it were the two stone tablets of the Ten Commandments as well as Aaron’s rod that budded and a pot of manna. A golden lid known as the “mercy seat” which is covered with 2 golden cherubim lay above the Ark.

At that time whenever they brought the Ark into the battle, the battle was as good as won. The Ark represents the presence of God. When the enemy heard that the Ark was present during a battle, the enemy was afraid. So the Ark represents God’s dwelling place where he comes to tabernacle with his people. And there, God sits on the mercy seat. If you want to find out where God sits, he sits on the mercy seat.

God does not sit on the judgment seat in his dealings with his people. He sits on the mercy seat. Why does he sit on the mercy seat? He sits on the Mercy Seat because he does not want to judge you. None of us can stand the judgment of God, and so he sits on the mercy seat. Only those who fail to receive the provision he has made are those who have decided to be judged by him. As for him, he always sits on the mercy seat and he is ever open to anyone that comes to him. Coming to God is an individual decision we will all have to make. No one no matter how much he loves you can make that decision for you. Make that decision today.
