Dr. Mike Okonkwo – We Are Believers

Topic: We Are Believers [Saturday August 5, 2017]

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth…” Romans 1:16 (KJV)

Grace is too good to be true – that God is no more imputing sin upon your life, is almost unbelievable. Child of God, if you have accepted Jesus into your life as your personal Lord and Saviour, then you are not a sinner! Apostle Paul said in Romans 1:16: “I am not ashamed of the gospel for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that ‘believes’. He didn’t say to everyone that keeps the Ten Commandments or to everyone that goes to church. Most times we call ourselves Christians but do you know that’s not what the Holy Spirit calls the believers. The believers were called Christians by the Gentiles first in Antioch (Acts 11:26). The word “Christian” means followers of Christ. What the Holy Spirit truly called us is ‘Believers’. And all over the New Testament, the word of God refers to us as believers

The word of God says: “…….to every one that believeth”‘. And the next verse says: ‘therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith as it is written the just shall live by faith’ (Romans 1:17). Why should I believe? Believing is your part! It is believing that releases the power of the gospel. Many find it difficult accepting their right standing in Christ. They make a mental assent to the finished work of Calvary, but somehow, deep down in their hearts, they find it difficult to accept it.
Beloved, Jesus said to Thomas in John 20:29, Thomas because you’ve seen so you now believe: blessed are those who have not seen but believe. Beloved, you are blessed when you believe that which is not seen. Seeing is not believing; believing is seeing.

We are called believers so we are expected to believe what God said concerning you, even though you have not seen it. This is where the power of the gospel lies because as you stand in faith, it will manifest.. A believer calls those things that are not yet seen as though there were.
