TREM Devotional – The Spirit Helps Through Your Obedience

Dr. Mike Okonkwo TREM

Wisdom For The Day Devotional 8 September 2022 By Bishop Mike Okonkwo – The Spirit Helps Through Your Obedience

TOPIC: The Spirit Helps Through Your Obedience (TREM Devotional 8 September 2022)

“A man’s heart deviseth his ways but the Lord directs his steps” Proverbs 16:9 (KJV)

MESSAGE:

A man may plan in his mind but God directs him in the path he should follow. God is the one that leads. He is the One that orders your steps. That is why it is so important, more than ever before, to be obedient. It is important to look into the word of God and begin to apply it. Make up your mind to be a doer of the word.

The book of James 1:25 says “Whosever looketh into the perfect law of liberty and continueth in it, he being not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the word, this man shall be blessed in his deeds”. It is continuous looking so that you will not be going about blindly. The Holy Spirit will begin to direct you once you start doing the word.

“Order my steps in thy word: And let not any iniquity have dominion over me.”(Psalm 119:133 KJV). To get rid of sins in your life, fill your life with the word of God. It will wash you! The word will cleanse you! It will sanctify you! The word will set you apart as you begin to declare who you are, God will begin to reveal to you your true image. As you say and do the word, Holy Spirit will work it out in you. Jesus on the inside, working on the outside.

According to John chapter 14:26 “And the Comforter which is the Holy Ghost whom the Father will send in my name, He shall teach you all things” The Holy Spirit will teach you all things. He shall bring all things to your remembrance. He will teach you about your marriage. He will teach you about your academic life. He will teach you about ministry. He will teach you about business. He will teach you about your career. He will teach you about your profession. He will teach you about your health. He will teach you about everything in life even in ministry. He will teach you and bring things to your remembrance so that you can succeed.

Seeds Of Destiny Devotional – Understanding: A Key To Pursuit

Seeds Of Destiny Devotional

Dunamis Seeds Of Destiny 8 September 2022 Devotional By Dr. Paul Enenche – Understanding: A Key To Pursuit

TOPIC: Understanding: A Key To Pursuit (Seeds Of Destiny 8 September 2022)

SCRIPTURE: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, Ephesians 1:18.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The depth of understanding determines the passion of pursuit.

MESSAGE:

The depth of understanding has been confirmed to be the determining factor for the passion of pursuit. People only pursue passionately what they understand clearly. Anything we don’t understand clearly, we can’t pursue passionately. Insight is the fuel for exploits. If you have insight in certain areas, you will have passion of pursuit in those areas.

And so, it is important that we know why we do the things we do, and what we expect out of what we do. The more we understand the things we do to advance The kingdom, the more outstanding we become in life.

For example, look at what God says in Isaiah 45:19:
I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I the Lord speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.

From this Scripture, God seems to be saying, “I have not called you to seek me for nothing. I have not called you to seek me in vain. I didn’t call you to serve me for people to laugh at you. I have not called you to waste your life; I have called you to reward you”

This means, God is not a user of people but a Raiser of people. Human beings may use you and when they get what they want out of you, they discard you. But God is not like that. Human beings may take advantage of you, but God will never take advantage of you. God is never a user of people; He is a Raiser of people.

Beloved, understanding is key to exploits. So, make up your mind to go for knowledge in your quest for greater exploits in life and destiny.

Remember this: The depth of understanding determines the passion of pursuit.

ASSIGNMENTS:

  1. Go through today’s message prayerfully and thoughtfully once again.
  2. Treasure the knowledge of God and His Word above all things.

DCLM Daily Manna – The Ruling Scepter

Pastor W. F. Kumuyi

DCLM Daily Manna 8 September 2022 Devotional By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The Ruling Scepter

TOPIC: The Ruling Scepter (DCLM Daily Manna 8 September 2022)

TEXT: Ezekiel 19:1-14 (KJV)

19 Moreover take thou up a lamentation for the princes of Israel,

2 And say, What is thy mother? A lioness: she lay down among lions, she nourished her whelps among young lions.

3 And she brought up one of her whelps: it became a young lion, and it learned to catch the prey; it devoured men.

4 The nations also heard of him; he was taken in their pit, and they brought him with chains unto the land of Egypt.

5 Now when she saw that she had waited, and her hope was lost, then she took another of her whelps, and made him a young lion.

6 And he went up and down among the lions, he became a young lion, and learned to catch the prey, and devoured men.

7 And he knew their desolate palaces, and he laid waste their cities; and the land was desolate, and the fulness thereof, by the noise of his roaring.

8 Then the nations set against him on every side from the provinces, and spread their net over him: he was taken in their pit.

9 And they put him in ward in chains, and brought him to the king of Babylon: they brought him into holds, that his voice should no more be heard upon the mountains of Israel.

10 Thy mother is like a vine in thy blood, planted by the waters: she was fruitful and full of branches by reason of many waters.

11 And she had strong rods for the sceptres of them that bare rule, and her stature was exalted among the thick branches, and she appeared in her height with the multitude of her branches.

12 But she was plucked up in fury, she was cast down to the ground, and the east wind dried up her fruit: her strong rods were broken and withered; the fire consumed them.

13 And now she is planted in the wilderness, in a dry and thirsty ground.

14 And fire is gone out of a rod of her branches, which hath devoured her fruit, so that she hath no strong rod to be a sceptre to rule. This is a lamentation, and shall be for a lamentation.

KEY VERSE: “And fire is gone out of a rod of her branches, which hath devoured her fruit, so that she hath no strong rod to be a sceptre to rule. This is a lamentation, and shall be for a lamentation” (Ezekiel 19:14).

MESSAGE:

Our text reveals the comparison of Judah to a lioness and the kings of Judah to a lion’s whelps. These kings of Judah were very cruel and oppressive to their own subjects. Jerusalem was described as a vine, flourishing and fruitful. The vine was destroyed and forsaken by God because of wickedness, though a remnant remained. She had, by wickedness, made herself like tinder to the sparks of God’s wrath, so that her own branches served as fuel to burn her. She was plucked up in fury and cast to the ground. Her strong rods were broken and withered; fire consumed them. She was now planted in the wilderness, in a dry and thirsty ground.

In spite of the lamentation of the destruction of Jerusalem and Judah for the lack of a strong rod to be a scepter, God remembered His promise to David that his kingdom and throne shall be established for ever (2 Samuel 7:16). God raised one Branch of the vine. This true and living Vine is our Lord and Saviour, Jesus, whose Kingdom shall be forever.

After the Church is raptured, the great tribulation of seven years would take place. Thereafter, Christ will reign on earth for a thousand years. His millennial reign will be a time when the purpose of God will be fully realised on earth. It will witness unprecedented era of national and individual peace as there will be no more wars.

In addition, the original curse placed on humanity at the Garden of Eden will be removed; there will be no sickness. Those who are expected to partake of Christ’s millennial reign are true believers who are watchful and steadfast until the end.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Christ’s reign on earth will end man’s wicked system.

Seeds Of Destiny Devotional – The Attitude Of Enquiry: A Pathway To Greatness

Seeds Of Destiny Devotional

Dunamis Seeds Of Destiny 7 September 2022 Devotional By Dr. Paul Enenche – The Attitude Of Enquiry: A Pathway To Greatness.

TOPIC — The Attitude Of Enquiry: A Pathway To Greatness. (Seeds Of Destiny 7 September 2022)

SCRIPTURE: Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein. Jeremiah 6:16

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Divine Direction is the backbone of spiritual conquerors.

MESSAGE:

One way to learn the principles of greatness is to observe the lives of great men. David was an enviable great man who walked with God in his time. And one attribute of David was his attitude of always enquiring from God what to do at critical times. David would always enquire from God before making any move.

At different occasions when David was involved in battles with the philistines, he would enquire of the Lord. At one time, God told him to go and fight the philistines but at another time, God told him not to go (2 Samuel 5:17-25).

Do you know the reason why David did not lose any battle? It was because he always asked God questions. Divine Direction is the backbone of spiritual conquerors. You will not miss it another time, in Jesus’ Name.

God’s servant, Papa Oyedepo, said that when they were given the certificate for the opening of the Covenant University, everyone was rejoicing, but he refused to join others in the excitement until he had confirmed that God was behind it. So, he held the certificate in his hands and said, “Oh Lord, are you in this, or we just went to open a university? If you are not in it, I will tear this certificate now!” And God said, “I am the one. Go ahead.”

You see, the attitude of enquiry is a character of great men. My counsel is, refuse to embark on any project until you have received approval from God. Don’t be in a hurry to do anything until you have received an approval from God.

Remember this: Divine Direction is the backbone of spiritual conquerors.

ASSIGNMENTS:

  1. Maintain an attitude of enquiry always.
  2. Don’t take a step until God gives you an approval to do so.

PRAYER: Thank You Lord for Your Word to me today. I receive the grace to maintain a consistent attitude of enquiry, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

DCLM Daily Manna – Hope In God’s Word

Pastor W. F. Kumuyi

DCLM Daily Manna 7 September 2022 Devotional By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Hope In God’s Word

TOPIC: Hope In God’s Word (DCLM Daily Manna 7 September 2022)

TEXT: Psalm 119:49-56 (KJV)

KEY VERSE: “Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast caused me to hope” (Psalm 119:49).

MESSAGE:

German pastor Paul Gerhardt and his family were forced to flee from their home during the Thirty Years’ War in the 17th Century. One night as they were lodged in a small village inn, homeless and afraid, his wife broke down and cried openly in despair. To comfort her, Gerhardt reminded her of Scripture promises about God’s provision and safety. Then going out to the garden to be alone, he too broke down and wept. He felt he had come to the darkest hour. Soon afterwards, Gerhardt felt the burden lifted and sensed anew the Lord’s presence. Taking his pen, he wrote a hymn that has brought comfort to many:

“Give to the winds thy fears;
Hope, and be undismayed;
God hears thy sighs and counts thy tears;
God shall lift up thy head.”

“Through waves and clouds and storms,
He gently clears the way;
Wait thou His time, so shall this night,
Soon end in joyous day.”

The psalmist, in our text, was in great affliction because the proud had him in derision. Horror took hold of him because of the wicked that had forsaken God’s law. Fortunately, the statutes of the Lord were his song in the house of his pilgrimage and he sought fulfilment of the promises of His word on which he had placed his hope.

Like the psalmist, people often become hopeless because of hardship, illness, lack, unanswered prayer, unemployment, fear of the unknown, marital challenges, financial crisis, unfulfilled dreams or desires, disappointment, family problems among other life challenges. Despite these challenges, it is still not good to lose hope.

Our hope must be rooted in the word of God and specifically, in the promises contained in His infallible word. God’s promises in the Scripture will surely be fulfilled, irrespective of prevailing circumstances. Therefore, encourage yourself in the Lord and His words.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
The word of God has solution to all life challenges.

TREM Devotional – Navigating Life Through The Word

Dr. Mike Okonkwo TREM

Wisdom For The Day Devotional 6 September 2022 By Bishop Mike Okonkwo – Navigating Life Through The Word

TOPIC: Navigating Life Through The Word (TREM Devotional 6 September 2022)

“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shall meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shall have good success.” Joshua 1:8 (KJV)

MESSAGE:

If I am told that this is a book that will make me succeed, I will marry the book, I will bury my head in it, I will live in it, I will drink it, I will eat it and I will spend time in it. Because I know it will make me successful and it will help me to navigate my way here on earth.

Psalm 119:19 says: “I am a stranger in the earth: Hide not thy commandments from me.”( KJV)

I am a stranger and I don’t know my way! When you show me your commandments, I will know how to do business, I will know how to marry my wife, I will know how to pass examinations, I will know how to subdue the enemy and I will know how to overtake and recover all.

“The entrance of thy words giveth light; It giveth understanding unto the simple.”(Psalm 119:130 KJV). When the world gets dark, light comes, and then it gives you understanding and clarity. The scripture also declares in Psalms 119:97: “O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day”. That is what I think of! I don’t waste my time thinking of the movie. I don’t waste my time thinking of frivolities. I look for the word that is relevant to the area of my needs and I begin to think about it. Why? Because “…through thy commandments, hast made me wiser than mine enemies: For they are ever with me.” (Psalm 119:98 KJV). God’s word will make you wiser than your enemies.

“I have more understanding than all my teachers: For thy testimonies are my meditation.” (Psalm 119:99 KJV)

The word of God will make you more astute. The word of God will make you sharper. The word of God will make you strong and it will fill your mind with understanding.

Seeds Of Destiny Devotional – Why Marriages Fail

Seeds Of Destiny Devotional

Dunamis Seeds Of Destiny 6 September 2022 Devotional By Dr. Paul Enenche: Why Marriages Fail

TOPIC: Why Marriages Fail (Seeds Of Destiny 6 September 2022)

SCRIPTURE: Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Marriages fail when the principles of God that sustain marriage in Scripture are not upheld.

MESSAGE:

Sometime ago, I got so bothered about the increasing rate of marital failure in our generation that I began to enquire from God. I asked the Lord, “Why do we have so many marital failures in our generation?” And as I enquired from God, He began to show me the reasons why marriages fail:

One major reason why marriages fail is that not all marriages have their root in God. Many people make their marital decisions without involving God from the beginning. And anything you do without involving God is a signature for failure.

Second reason: I saw that most marriages today fail because the foundations of those marriages are not pure. Many married people today had slept with each other before being joined in the holy matrimony on the altar.

Third reason: I also realised that many other marriages fail because the couples don’t practice the foundational principles of the Word of God regarding marriage. For instance, husbands don’t love their wives, and wives don’t submit to their husbands as commanded by the Scripture (Ephesians 5:22-25). Marriages fail when the principles of God that sustain marriage in Scripture are not upheld.

Beloved, as you embark on the quest to get married, it is very important to commit your steps to the Lord. If God knows that you don’t do anything until you hand it over to Him, He will show you the right way. He will show you the right person to marry.

Today, many people are in a hurry to get married their own way. They want to marry in their own way and bring it to God to approve or endorse, but God does not operate like that.

Get this: Committing things to the Hands of God may appear slow but it is sure, and doing things your own way may appear fast, but it usually fails.

Remember this: Marriages fail when the principles of God that sustain marriage in Scripture are not upheld.

ASSIGNMENTS:

  1. Make up your mind to uphold the principles of God in all areas of life.
  2. Apply God’s Word in the running of your marriage and home.

PRAYER: Lord, I ask for Your grace to uphold Your Principles in my marriage and home, Lord in Jesus’ Name.

DCLM Daily Manna – Fate Of The Sinning Soul

Pastor W. F. Kumuyi

DCLM Daily Manna 6 September 2022 Devotional By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Fate Of The Sinning Soul

TOPIC: Fate Of The Sinning Soul (DCLM Daily Manna 6 September 2022)

TEXT: Ezekiel 18:1-18 (KJV)

1 The word of the Lord came unto me again, saying,

2 What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge?

3 As I live, saith the Lord God, ye shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in Israel.

4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.

5 But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right,

6 And hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither hath defiled his neighbour’s wife, neither hath come near to a menstruous woman,

7 And hath not oppressed any, but hath restored to the debtor his pledge, hath spoiled none by violence, hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment;

8 He that hath not given forth upon usury, neither hath taken any increase, that hath withdrawn his hand from iniquity, hath executed true judgment between man and man,

9 Hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept my judgments, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, saith the Lord God.

10 If he beget a son that is a robber, a shedder of blood, and that doeth the like to any one of these things,

11 And that doeth not any of those duties, but even hath eaten upon the mountains, and defiled his neighbour’s wife,

12 Hath oppressed the poor and needy, hath spoiled by violence, hath not restored the pledge, and hath lifted up his eyes to the idols, hath committed abomination,

13 Hath given forth upon usury, and hath taken increase: shall he then live? he shall not live: he hath done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him.

14 Now, lo, if he beget a son, that seeth all his father’s sins which he hath done, and considereth, and doeth not such like,

15 That hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, hath not defiled his neighbour’s wife,

16 Neither hath oppressed any, hath not withholden the pledge, neither hath spoiled by violence, but hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment,

17 That hath taken off his hand from the poor, that hath not received usury nor increase, hath executed my judgments, hath walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live.

18 As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, spoiled his brother by violence, and did that which is not good among his people, lo, even he shall die in his iniquity.

KEY VERSE: “Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.” – (Ezekiel 18:4).

MESSAGE:

While in captivity in Babylon, the Israelites assembled for themselves traditional sayings and proverbs that were contrary to the precepts of Jehovah. Seeking to exonerate their generation from the guilt of sin and its consequent punishment, they hid in the proverb that “The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge.” In other words, the judgment of exile which the Jews were experiencing, was the result of the sins of their fathers.

This has no basis in Scriptures. And the Lord did not hesitate to send His servant, Ezekiel, to let them know His mind. He said everyone would account for his actions. The guilt of sin was never handed down from father to son. The Lord declared, “Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.” The just who faithfully kept His statutes would live while those who were violence-prone and idolatrous would be damned if they failed to abandon their sinful ways.

Today, there is a new breed of churchgoers who rationalise their sins the same way Israel did in the days of Ezekiel. They dig deep into transgressions with all the accompanying punishment and claim that the fault is not theirs but their forebears. This is an unscriptural disposition the devil uses to deny the carnal man the responsibility of sincerely acknowledging his wrongdoings and asking God to forgive him.

Christ came to redeem humanity from eternity in hell. Having borne the sin of the world by proxy, He has made a way to escape eternal damnation for all who accept Him as Saviour.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
“The soul that sinneth, it shall die.”

TREM Devotional – The Spiritual World Is Superior

Dr. Mike Okonkwo TREM

Wisdom For The Day Devotional 5 September 2022 By Bishop Mike Okonkwo – The Spiritual World Is Superior

TOPIC: The Spiritual World Is Superior (TREM Devotional 5 September 2022)

“For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light” Psalms 36:9 (KJV)

MESSAGE:

As you stay in the light of God’s word, you will see light in every other area of your life because the word of God is a lamp unto your feet and a light unto your paths.

As you stay in the word and walk in the word, God will give you light in every area of life.

The Bible is not a history book. It is not a literature book. It is a spiritual book.

It is a spiritual book written by spiritual beings for spiritual people. The Bible was inspired by the Spirit and then written down by spiritual people to be delivered to spiritual people. It is not supposed to be understood carnally. A natural man does not receive the things of the spirit for they are foolishness to him neither can he know them because they are spiritually discerned.

So, you must begin to see in the light of the Spirit and understands that the Spirit world rules, governs, controls, and contains the natural world. The Spirit world is more superior! That is why Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 4:18: “While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.”(KJV)

The things that are seen are subject to change. If you are feeling pain in your body now, it is subject to change. If you are having financial difficulty, it is subject to change. If you don’t have a meal in your meal barrel, it is subject to change. If you don’t have a job now, it is subject to change. If you are a single man or woman believing God for a spouse, it is subject to change. If you are trekking now without a means of transportation, it is subject to change. Whatever you see or feel is subject to change.

You must understand that the things that will make you a wonder to your generation are in the word of God. That is where your destiny is defined. That is where God has documented the things that concern you. So it is important to read the scriptures with understanding because life is there.

Seeds Of Destiny Devotional – Walking By Divine Direction

Seeds Of Destiny Devotional

Dunamis Seeds Of Destiny 5 September 2022 Devotional By Dr. Paul Enenche: Walking By Divine Direction

TOPIC: Walking By Divine Direction (Seeds Of Destiny 5 September 2022)

SCRIPTURE: But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: We don’t move by sentiments; we move by the Voice of God.

MESSAGE:

Sometime ago, I listened to God’s servant, Bishop Oyedepo give a testimony. He took some wrong steps, but when he received correction from the Lord, he made a U-turn immediately. That was meekness!

For example, when he was commissioned into Ministry in 1983 by Papa E. A. Adeboye, he wanted the headquarters of the Ministry, Winners Chapel to be in Jos, Plateau State. In fact, he had already secured an office in Jos and was ready to move there.

But when the commissioning was over, he was praying one day and God spoke to him, “You are not going to Jos”. Then he said, “What! Lord, why?”

And God told him, “Concerning going to Jos, it was not my Voice you heard. You heard your own heart. Do you remember in the year 1974 when you were playing table tennis around the Jenta Area of Jos? At that time, you told yourself that if you had a choice to live anywhere in the future, Jos would be the place. So, it was that voice you heard. You did not hear me. If you want to know my will for your life, remain here in Ilorin”. So, he remained in Ilorin and asked the people who had gone ahead of him to Jos to return to Ilorin.

Someone else in his shoes might have thought, “People saw and prayed for me when I was preparing to go to Jos. If I say I am not going to Jos again, what would they say? Would they not say that I am confused?”

But to God’s servant, Bishop Oyedepo, that was immaterial. He made a U-turn when it was necessary.

Please, take note of this: We don’t move by sentiments; we move by the Voice of God. When you are married to your mistakes, you continue to deliver regrets. And that will not be your portion in Jesus’ Name.

Remember this: We don’t move by sentiments; we move by the Voice of God.

ASSIGNMENTS:

  1. Refuse to walk by sentiments.
  2. Be sensitive to know God’s Direction always.

PRAYER: Thank You Lord for Your Word to me today. I receive the Grace to walk by Your Voice and not by sentiments, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

QUOTE: When society gives you direction, after a while, you realize that you are moving in no direction. You are lost! Culled from “Who Are You?” by Dr Paul Enenche.

DAILY BIBLE READING: Ezekiel 34-36.

AMAZING FACT: Our brain is programmed to erect the inverted image formed on our retina by the convex eye lens. A new born baby sees the world upside down till its brain starts erecting it.

PROPHETIC WORD/DECLARATION: The grace to hear and heed the Voice of God be released upon you in Jesus Name.

DCLM Daily Manna – Divine Justice System

Pastor W. F. Kumuyi

DCLM Daily Manna 5 September 2022 Devotional By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Divine Justice System

TOPIC: Divine Justice System (DCLM Daily Manna 5 September 2022)

TEXT: Deuteronomy 19:1-10 (KJV)

1 When the Lord thy God hath cut off the nations, whose land the Lord thy God giveth thee, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their cities, and in their houses;

2 Thou shalt separate three cities for thee in the midst of thy land, which the Lord thy God giveth thee to possess it.

3 Thou shalt prepare thee a way, and divide the coasts of thy land, which the Lord thy God giveth thee to inherit, into three parts, that every slayer may flee thither.

4 And this is the case of the slayer, which shall flee thither, that he may live: Whoso killeth his neighbour ignorantly, whom he hated not in time past;

5 As when a man goeth into the wood with his neighbour to hew wood, and his hand fetcheth a stroke with the axe to cut down the tree, and the head slippeth from the helve, and lighteth upon his neighbour, that he die; he shall flee unto one of those cities, and live:

6 Lest the avenger of the blood pursue the slayer, while his heart is hot, and overtake him, because the way is long, and slay him; whereas he was not worthy of death, inasmuch as he hated him not in time past.

7 Wherefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt separate three cities for thee.

8 And if the Lord thy God enlarge thy coast, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, and give thee all the land which he promised to give unto thy fathers;

9 If thou shalt keep all these commandments to do them, which I command thee this day, to love the Lord thy God, and to walk ever in his ways; then shalt thou add three cities more for thee, beside these three:

10 That innocent blood be not shed in thy land, which the Lord thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and so blood be upon thee.

KEY VERSE: “That innocent blood be not shed in thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and so blood be upon thee.” – (Deuteronomy 19:10).

MESSAGE:

Prior to their redemption and full settlement in Canaan, the Israelites ran a primitive justice system. For instance, their laws allowed the next of kin of a slain person to wreak vengeance. He or she was permitted to go after the murderer and carry out any judgment they desired. But the Lord rolled out a better judicial arrangement that would protect the unintentional killer and prevent the shedding of innocent blood.

As the land in Canaan was allocated to the various tribes, God commanded the children of Israel to separate cities where “every slayer may flee thither.” The idea was that in their new environment, murder cases must be thoroughly investigated so as not to lead to arbitrary punishment. If a person died in the field while another wielded his axe in the course of felling a tree, the unintentional killer could flee to one of the cities of refuge. He would not be “worthy of death, inasmuch as he hated him not in time past.”

This provision prevented unjust revenge and miscarriage of justice, which might lead to spiraling acts of fatal crimes. It is the prevalence of the pursuit of retaliatory deeds that has made the world unsafe today. The absence of an acceptable system of justice that would bring redress to the aggrieved has been pushing everyone to adopt his or her way of seeking justice, even if it is an illegitimate means. This has brought more sorrow to a world in search of peace and joy.

God, the Author of peace, has proclaimed that man must seek His infallible concept of justice to be secured in the world. Without adhering to heaven’s law of equity that respects the rights of others to live and enjoy the abundance of life given by God through faith in Jesus, the Prince of peace, man would continue to function in bewilderment.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Man cannot have peace without seeking divine justice.
