Topic: Keep God’s Words [Saturday March 18, 2017]
Text: Psalm 119:57-64
Key Verse: “Thou art my portion, O LORD: I have said that I would keep thy words” (Psalm 119:57).
As D.L. Moody once said, “You know that when you were a child and were disobedient to your parents, you not only made them unhappy but were unhappy yourself. There will be no peace in any soul until it is willing to obey the voice of God.
I believe that the great reason there is so much trouble in this world is because we are living in disobedience to God’s laws, God’s commands and God’s Word…” The psalmist realised this, repented of his evil ways, turned unto the Lord and promised to keep His commandments. He made the Lord his everlasting portion. There are specific admonitions in Scriptures for every category of people. To the youth, the Bible admonishes in Ecclesiastes 12:1: “Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them.”
The period of youthfulness is the best time to put one’s energy in serving God. Unnecessary errors of life will be avoided and such youth will grow up like a similitude of pillars in the house of God. Married men are enjoined to love their wives (Ephesians 5:25); wives are to obey and submit themselves to their husbands; while fathers are admonished to bring up children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord rather than provoking them to wrath (Ephesians 6:4). Mothers, like the virtuous woman in Proverbs 31 must see to the well-being of their homes as resource managers.
Obedience to this produces a healthy, loving family with a good impact on the society. Christian workers are also called to faithfulness and renewed consecration. This will bring growth to the work of their hands and safety to their own souls. God is always faithful. The obedient will surely eat the good of the land.
Thought for the day: Obedience to God’s word brings blessing.
