Topic: …Lived, Begat And Died! [Friday January 27, 2017]
Text: Genesis 4:25-26; 5:1-32
Key Verse: “And Enos lived ninety years, and begat Cainan: And Enos lived after he begat Cainan eight hundred and fifteen years, and begat sons and daughters: And all the days of Enos were nine hundred and five years: and he died” (Genesis 5:9-11).
The life story of most people can be summarized in the three words that make the title of today’s meditation – lived, begat and died. There is nothing significant that can be remembered or recorded about their existence on earth than that they pass through it like a bird flying across the sky without leaving a mark behind. Most people go through life without a definite purpose.
To them, life holds no significant meaning other than to live, eat and die. Yet there is more to life. The passage of our meditation today gives us a genealogy of the descendants of Adam through Seth. It is significant to note that though they all lived for hundreds of years, nothing significant was recorded about their lives other than that they lived, had children and died. They had great opportunities with life but achieved nothing worth mentioning. But Enoch made a significant difference traceable to the fact that he knew God and walked with Him; hence, the account of his life took a different turn and so did his end. Instead of dying like every other person that lived before him and after, God took him to be with Him. Life has more to offer than just to exist.
The story of Enoch tells us where this “more” can be found – in God! God gives meaning and significance to our lives. No matter how long or short you live, or whatever your attainment in life, all will be vain without God. There is more to life that only walking with God can reveal. God wants you to live a significant life. This is made possible only through Christ. He will help you fulfill His purpose for your life which is to please Him in all that you do and to contribute something meaningful and that will be of benefit to those around you and those you will leave behind. If you have been living your life without God, make a turnaround today. Begin to walk with Him like Enoch and He will make a big difference in your life.
Thought for the day: God makes the big difference in lives surrendered to Him.
