For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it (Isaiah 55:10-11).
The Lord Jesus, while explaining the parable of the sower to His disciples, compared the ground in which the seeds were sown to the heart of man: “The sower soweth the word. And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts” (Mark 4:14-15). So, the heart or spirit of man is synonymous with “earth” in our opening scripture.
This means it’s the human spirit that brings forth and buds when it makes contact with the Word. Being born again, you must cultivate your heart to be a fertile ground for the Word, so it can “bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater.” Don’t expect seed and bread to come from somewhere else. They’ll come from inside you. Inside you is the capacity to bring forth seed for sowing, and bread for food.
Therefore, the victory for the challenge, the solution to the problem, the health for the sickness—everything—is inside you! God didn’t make the new creation to be dependent on anything or anyone, not even on Him. This, however, doesn’t mean that you don’t “need” God. Rather, it underscores the truth that He made you to be self-sufficient, requiring no external aid or support to live successfully in the earth.
2 Corinthians 9:8 (AMPC) tells us something striking about this: “And God is able to make all grace (every favor and earthly blessing) come to you in abundance, so that you may always and under all circumstances and whatever the need be self-sufficient [possessing enough to require no aid or support and furnished in abundance for every good work and charitable donation].”
All that you need for a self-sufficient life of success in this world is the Word of God. The Word of God is what saturates and empowers the “earth” (your heart) to produce seed for sowing and bread for food. Whenever you receive the Word into your heart, meditate and act on it, and it’ll produce results in your life.
