THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Live beyond self.
MESSAGE
Our anchor scripture reveals there is a process, a making that ends a person in the realm of wealth. And there is an attitude that processes one into poverty.
So, there is a way of life that leads to poverty. And today, we shall be looking at one of those ways so we can avoid it. It is called the survival mentality.
The survival mentality is a self-satisfactory lifestyle where someone is just alive to survive through life with no intention of making a difference in the lives of others or for the kingdom. It is the consumer lifestyle.
Most times, you hear people say, “I want a house. I want to buy a car. I need a job. I want to be able to send my children to school. I want to be able to travel abroad and come back when I want.” That kind of mentality will never usher a person into the realm of financial authority and dominion.
Beloved, don’t try to look for water in a basin. Don’t try to look for water even in a bathtub; look for the water that is like an ocean. Look for something beyond yourself. Refuse to allow your life to be centered on what to consume. Self-satisfaction and immediate family satisfaction will keep a person in a survival mode. Live beyond self.
Think about a generation. Think about being a blessing to your world. Then there will be no limit to what God can do with your life. When God Himself knows that there are widows, orphans and countless number of people who depend on you, then your resources will explode.
Proverbs 23:7 says For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he…. If all you are thinking about is what to eat, what to drink and what to drive, that is where your life will remain. So, you need to expand your mentality. God wants to bless you and make you a blessing (Genesis 12:2-3).
He does not just want you to survive. He does not want you to barely exist. He does not want you to be a dam; He wants you to be a flowing river.
That was what he did in the life of Job. Job 29:11-12 says, When the ear heard me, then it blessed me; and when the eye saw me, it gave witness to me: Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him.
Beloved this is my counsel: first, itemize what you will do with money for your extended family, community, widows, orphans, etc.; let it be clear how you want to change people’s lives, what you want to establish to create jobs for people when God blesses you with billions. Break out of the survival thinking.
Second, ensure that you are aggressively energetic in life. The slackness of the hands will frustrate financial dominion. And third, avoid wasteful living at all costs.
Remember this: Live beyond self.
ASSIGNMENT(S):
- Reject the survival mentality.
- Think big; think of how to be a generational blessing.
- Ask God for the grace for financial dominion.
PRAYER: Lord, I receive the grace to live beyond myself. Help me, Lord, to be a blessing to my generation. Multiply my resources as I make a difference in the lives of people, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.
