Dunamis Daily Devotional – Sin, An Attack On Spirituality And Prayer Life

Topic: Sin, An Attack On Spirituality And Prayer Life [Tuesday March 6, 2018]

Scripture: And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. – Mark 11:25

Thought For The Day: The life of prayer and the life of sin are mutually exclusive.

Prayer is a vital component of our spiritual journey. Prayer enhances spirituality. Sin on the other hand engenders lukewarm attitude towards prayer. That is why it has been said that prayer keeps people from sin and sin keeps people from praying. The life of prayer and the life of sin are mutually exclusive; they are diametrically opposed. They cannot coexist. The decision to sin is a decision against prayer, and the decision to pray is a decision against sin. This means that one of the major objectives of sin is to attack your prayer life.

Now, how does the attack affect the person? When a person okes, drinks, has intimate relationship with someone he or she is not married to, takes money that was not given to him or her, lies or cheats, etc.; prayer is going to become a struggle for such a person, except he or she is a hypocrite. The flow of prayer from the mouth of a sinner becomes a struggle. Words cannot flow. The presence of God around the sinner’s life is gone and time to him would appear to have come to a standstill.

When we were sinners, we could not pray for up to five or ten minutes because if you are a sinner, your relationship with God remains permanently broken down.

Beloved, make up your mind not to live a life of sin in order to maintain spiritual buoyancy in the place of prayer.

Remember this: The life of prayer and the life of sin are mutually exclusive.
