Tongue’s Awesome Power ~ Pastor William Kumuyi

Topic: Tongue’s Awesome Power [Friday January 20, 2017]

Text: Mark 11:12-26

Key Verse: “For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.” Mark 11:23

Every tree has its own period and season of fruiting. In this text, we can see that it was not yet time for the fruiting of the fig tree and Jesus doubtless knew this as well. He merely wanted to demonstrate to the disciples the power of faith through our mouth and also to let them know that all fruitless trees would be cursed as it happened to the fig tree. The Jewish people were fruitless in their worship of God. They professed empty religion without righteousness.

After cursing the fig tree, Christ went directly into the temple and began to reform the excesses and abuses in it in order to demonstrate to the people that the purpose of the Redeemer’s coming to Zion, was to turn away ungodliness from Jacob. Instead of the scribes and the chief priests making peace with Christ, they sought how they might destroy Him. On the part of the disciples, they could not imagine how soon the cursed tree of the past evening got withered away.

This shows how soon those who reject Christ or are fighting against the truth will wither away. Any religion that is Christless is definitely fruitless and will surely wither. Every unfruitful work of darkness will equally wither away. Believers’ power of faith can remove not only the mountains of problems, but also of guilt and mountains of unrighteousness to make them plain before the grace of God. If you are yet a sinner, why don’t you accept Christ in faith and make your way right with God by repentance unto Christ so that your prayers will become decrees that will begin to move mountains of your life and ministry? And if you are redeemed already, why not work out your salvation sustainably with trembling and fear and “hold the beginning of [your] confidence steadfast unto the end…”

Thought for the day: To avoid being cursed, run away from fruitless works and worship.
