Wisdom For The Day Devotional 20 May 2024 By Bishop Mike Okonkwo – Christ Is The Mediator Of The New Covenant
TOPIC: Christ Is The Mediator Of The New Covenant (TREM Devotional 20 May 2024)
“And for this cause, he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.” Hebrews 9:15-16 (KJV)
MESSAGE:
“And for this cause, he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.” Hebrews 9:15-16 (KJV)
Where there is a Will, the one who wrote the Will had to die before the Will became effectual. “For a will means nothing while the person who made it is alive; it goes into effect only after his death. Hebrews 9:17 (GNT). You cannot begin to execute a will when the person who wrote it is still alive. That was why Jesus died so that the Testament could come into force. But not just that, He rose again so that He can be the executor of the Testament.
If you understand what I have taken time to communicate for the past few days, you will realise that there is no more shame for you! Christ died that you might be honoured, celebrated, and elevated. He died so that all shame would be removed. He died to establish a better covenant. Under this better covenant, God says: “…I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” Hebrews 8:12 (NKJV).
And this was accomplished through His perfect sacrifice. “For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; not that He should offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood of another— He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.” Hebrews 9:24-26 (NKJV)
This is the heart of the matter! The sacrifice of Christ has put sin away. Sin has been judged. God will no longer judge the believer in Christ. You have been delivered from the wrath to come. So, you are not dying with fear! No! When you die, Angels will welcome you because of your faith in the perfect sacrifice of Christ.
