Wisdom For The Day Devotional 31 March 2025 By Bishop Mike Okonkwo – Christ Is The Perfect Substitute

TOPIC: Christ Is The Perfect Substitute (TREM Devotional 31 March 2025)

“Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.” (Hebrews 9:12 KJV)

MESSAGE:

In the Old Testament, when a sinner came to the temple to talk about his sins, the high priest didn’t look at the sinner, he looked at the animal the sinner brought. If the animal had fulfilled all the conditions for sacrifice, the man was good to go. The man’s acceptance by the priest, was based on the animal he brought, and not on the man himself.

In the first instance, the person who brought the animal brought it because he was a sinner, that’s why he brought it. And so, the high priest will look at the animal, to asses if its innocence and met the specifications and requirements. He will look to find out if it was clean and without spot, wrinkle or blemish. He would only accept the animal if it satisfied the conditions to qualify for sacrifice. After which the sinner can they go away justified as if he had never sinned, because the animal took his place.

Beloved, Christ is the perfect substitute. His sinless blood was the most perfect and acceptable sacrifice to cleanse us from all guilt, shame and filthiness. His blood is sufficient. He took our place, so we can have righteousness and redemption. When God looks at you, He doesn’t see you and all your mistakes, He sees the price that was paid for you.

Hebrews 9:13-14 (NLT) says, “Under the old system, the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer could cleanse people’s bodies from ceremonial impurity. Just think how much more the blood of Christ will purify our consciences from sinful deeds so that we can worship the living God. For by the power of the eternal Spirit, Christ offered himself to God as a perfect sacrifice for our sins.”
