Wisdom For The Day Devotional 24 March 2024 By Bishop Mike Okonkwo – Focus On Jesus, Not Your Sin
TOPIC: Focus On Jesus, Not Your Sin (TREM Devotional 24 March 2024)
“And the Lord said unto Moses, make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that everyone that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live”. Numbers 21:8 (KJV)
MESSAGE:
Something interesting happened to the children of Israel when they sinned against God while they were in the wilderness. In Numbers 21:7, the bible says; “Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, we have sinned, for we have spoken against the Lord, and against thee; Pray unto the Lord, that he take away the serpent from us. And Moses prayed for the people. God then instructed him to make a fiery serpent and set it upon a pole. Anyone that has been bitten by the serpent, who looks upon that pole; not looking at where he is bitten, shall live.
When the serpent, had bitten any man and he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived. What is that serpent of brass? The Bible tells us in the book of John chapter 3:14 and 15, “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: that whosever believeth in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (KJV).
That bronze serpent was a type of Jesus. So here, the people were told not to look at the snake bite, which was the result of sin. If you are focusing on that, you will die. Rather, they were to take their eyes up and look at Jesus who took away your sins. Look at Him!
One of the strategies of the devil is to keep showing you your sins and your mistakes. He wants you to live in guilt and self-condemnation, but you must not give him room. Jesus has paid the price. The solution is Jesus, so keep your eyes on Him. Jesus Christ has paid the full price, and nothing can be added to it. Stay focused on Jesus.
