Wisdom For The Day Devotional 8 September 2025 By Bishop Mike Okonkwo – God Makes You Right To Be Able To Do Right
TOPIC: God Makes You Right To Be Able To Do Right (TREM Devotional 8 September 2025)
“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” – 2 Corinthians 5:21 (KJV)
MESSAGE:
Beloved, for a child of God to expect something bad simply because he did something wrong is not in line with New Testament truth. While it is true that wrong choices have natural consequences, don’t put them on God. God is a good God.
In the Old Covenant, to be right with God, you first had to do right. The Law demanded obedience before acceptance. But in the Covenant of Grace, God flips the order. Even when you are in a bad condition, God declares you righteous because of Christ. And once He makes you right, you are empowered to do right.
In other words, under the Law you had to “do right to be right.” But under Grace, because of the finished work of Christ, you are already made right and because you are right, you now walk in righteousness.
Think of it this way: under the Old Covenant, if you had a beard and the law said that made you unclean, then you were unclean until you shaved it off. But under Grace, God says, “You are clean,” even while the beard is still there. And because you now know you are clean, you willingly pick up the razor and shave. It is the revelation of righteousness that produces right living.
The day you gave your life to Christ, even though you still carried “excess baggage” in your life, God declared you His child. He didn’t ask you to clean up first. The moment you received Jesus, you were instantly delivered from the power of darkness and translated into the Kingdom of His dear Son. You became a believer, still with flaws, but fully accepted. And if you had died that same moment, Heaven would have welcomed you because your righteousness is not in your works, but in Christ.
