Wisdom For The Day Devotional 18 June 2023 By Bishop Mike Okonkwo: Happy Fathers’ Day
TOPIC: Happy Fathers’ Day (TREM Devotional 18 June 2023)
“Fathers, do not irritate and provoke your children to anger [do not exasperate them to resentment], but rear them [tenderly] in the training and discipline and the counsel and admonition of the Lord”. Ephesians 6:4 (AMP)
MESSAGE:
Today, things are happening so fast, and culture is changing so rapidly that it is difficult for most parents to grapple with the change. Things that were taboos just a few years ago are now the order of the day. The media has become a tool the enemy has used and is using to confuse the young minds of our children and it is so easy to get exasperated, but I have come to challenge every father to take time to understand their children.
Children are God’s gift to us, however, how we train them is our gift back to God. So, fathers, we owe God a duty to train these children. I know that the world has placed so much weight on our shoulders, but despite this, learn to prioritize the children. Find time to play with them. Find them to know them. Let them into your world. Play games with them. Know who their friends are. Pray with them. Let them have a clear understanding of the reason behind your actions. They are not too young to understand.
Children need us more than they admit. Please, don’t wait for them to come to you. Call them up, ask questions, be understanding and be their guide and coach and see them turn out to be the children you will be ever proud of.
I know a lot of responsibility is on you as a father, but today, this special day is dedicated to you, I challenge every father to connect with their children and be a guide to them. This will go a long way to make the world a better place. The best place to make a societal change is in the home. When we get it right in the home, the nation will get it right.
To everyone, please celebrate the fathers in your life today. Thank God specially for them. Show them, love, because they deserve it. Once again, Happy Fathers’ Day to all the men. God bless you.
