Wisdom For The Day Devotional 2 January 2025 By Bishop Mike Okonkwo – The Word Produces Rest

“And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.” (Numbers 13:30 KJV)

TOPIC: The Word Produces Rest (TREM Devotional 2 January 2025)

Beloved, never in the history of mankind, have men been as stressed, perturbed, anxious, worrisome, restless, empty, frustrated, and depressed as we have in the world today. With the advancements in technology and the notion that technology makes life easier, or is supposed to make life easier for humanity, one would think that there should be a direct, positive correlation between advancements in technology and the anxiety levels of normal, everyday people across the world. The advancements in technology we witness everyday should automatically mean an improvement in the overall quality of life, and a vast reduction in stress-related health issues for most people. However, on the contrary, the reverse is the case, and one wonders why.

One of the simple reasons, like I have said repeatedly at different times in my over 5 decades of ministry, is that the world is fast-spiraling downwards and the center can no longer hold. We live in a fallen world, and as we climax the age, things will not get better in the world, despite man’s best efforts to improve his living conditions here on earth. It’s a spiritual phenomenon that cannot be violated. Jesus is coming back again.

To make matters worse, we are inundated on an almost-per-minute basis of the news of terror and destruction happening globally, to the extent that some think that God has vacated His throne, because it appears as though the world is spinning out of control. As a result, economic hardship is being felt across the world on a scale like has never been experienced before, despite all the man-made solutions we have to improving our living conditions. Even the best and most germane economic policies are failing to address the prevailing issues bedeviling the people, and the hearts of many are failing.

However, in spite of all this, the believer is not expected to partake in the stress, anxiety, worry, and depression in the world, because we have a more sure word of prophecy, as an anchor for our souls, regardless of what we might be experiencing. That was the case with Caleb and Joshua, 2 out of 12 spies that were sent by Moses to spy out the promised land, and bring back word to Moses and the people of God.

Like the other 10 spies, they saw the giants as well as the land that flowed with milk and honey. However, unlike the 10 who focused on the giants they saw which produced fear and anxiety in their hearts, Joshua and Caleb focused on God’s promise to them, which produced rest, peace and faith, to possess their possession.

Beloved, in 2025 and beyond, focus on the word; it produces rest.
