Wisdom For The Day Devotional 1 March 2024 By Bishop Mike Okonkwo – Whose Feet Are You Washing
TOPIC: Whose Feet Are You Washing (TREM Devotional 1 March 2024)
“He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself. After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.” John 13:4-5
MESSAGE:
Peter saw Jesus’ attitude as an aberration. He did not understand that in God’s Kingdom, to be above is first to be below. That is why Jesus said the Son of man has not come to be served but to serve, to give himself as a ransom. That is what Christianity is all about. In the end, Jesus invited the disciples to follow His example. “After washing their feet, he put on his robe again and sat down and asked, “Do you understand what I was doing? You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and you are right because that’s what I am. And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you.” (John 13:13-34)
My question to you today is: Whose feet are you washing? Whose life are you affecting? Who are you helping to grow in the things of the Kingdom?
Every day, you see people on the street! Every day, new people come to church, but because they are abandoned and left alone in their valley conditions, they turn their back and go back to the world. When last did you come down from the mountaintop to reach out to somebody? Some people that you saw probably lifting their hands to worship will drop those hands when they remember that there is no food to eat after service. Are you sensitive enough to detect such people? Or are you waiting for them to bring a cup to beg?
Follow the example of Christ. Humble yourself and serve.
