Topic: A Sacrifice God Accepts [Sunday April 9, 2017]
“My father, if thou hast opened thy mouth unto the LORD, do to me according to that which hath proceeded out of thy mouth; forasmuch as the LORD hath taken vengeance for thee of thine enemies, even of the children of Ammon.” (Judg. 11:36)
Those were the words of Jephthah’s daughter. When a faithful person says something, he sticks to and stands by it. Jephthah was a man of honour, and so was his daughter. He had trained her well. At the end of the day, he offered her to God.
Now, let us look at God’s faithfulness. God is predictable. You know what He can or cannot do. In the book of Leviticus, He said to the Israelites, “And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD.” (Lev 18:21) And He repeated this in the book of Deuteronomy.
One of the major reasons God drove out the former inhabitants of the land of ancient Canaan and planted the Israelites in their place was because they offered human sacrifices to their god Molech. God does not ask for or take human sacrifice in that form. He abhors it! All over the Bible, wherever any one offered human sacrifice to any god, he or she met with God’s fierce anger.
“For whosoever shall commit any of these abominations, even the souls that commit them shall be cut off from among their people.” (Lev 18:29)
God accepts people devotion to Him as sacrifice. Today and always, offer up yourself as a living sacrifice to God.
Words of Wisdom: We are called to be faithful, to take that first difficult step, and leave the rest to God. God accepts people devoted to Him as living sacrifice.
Confession/Prayer: Father I will be faithful to You all the days of my life.
