Appreciating God’s Goodness ~ Pastor William Kumuyi

Topic: Appreciating God’s Goodness [Sunday February 12, 2017]

Text: Psalm 104:1-23

Key Verse: “Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty” (Psalm 104:1).

William Arthur Ward, one of America’s most quoted writers of inspirational maxims, while pointing out the potency of appreciation, stated that gratitude could transform common days into thanksgiving, turn routine jobs into joy and change ordinary opportunities into blessings. This is what some Christians, unfortunately though, do not value, even when there are apparent physical, not to talk of spiritual, evidences of God’s favour upon their lives.

The psalmist, in our text, appreciates the grandeur and majesty of God. He is overwhelmed with God’s creatures, particularly their magnitude and varieties, which espoused not only God’s attributes, but also His divine nature. The psalmist notes three precise and unique qualities of God – honour, majesty and light. While the psalmist informs us that God created the earth and the sky, he equally states that He did not leave the earth without form. Rather, He takes care of everything. The psalm appreciates God. As God’s people, we are created for a purpose – to reflect His glory.

As His handiwork, He will ensure that no challenge will overcome us. All we need do, therefore, is to appreciate Him for making us a part of His grand creation. We should take a cue from the Psalmist and appreciate God always in the beauty and majesty of His holiness.

Thought for the day: Ingratitude is vileness. Avoid it.
