Topic: God’s Choice

Read: Romans 9:13-18

Romans 9:13-18 Just as it is written: “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.”

What then shall we say? Is God unjust? Not at all!

For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”

It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God’s mercy.

For Scripture says to Pharaoh: “I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.”

Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden.

MEMORISE: :But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (1 SAMUEL 16:7).

EXPOSITION

One of the evils of this generation is that we have dedicated our time, energy, choices and scarce resources to the things that are not important. Things God won’t consider in the choice of man. Man gives more consideration and priority to the flesh. Man is so concerned about how he looks and neglects the condition of his heart, the main factor God considers in His choice.

David did not have the luxuries of his time neither the opportunity to live in the city, yet Prophet Samuel said, he was the man God had chosen. You need not to be the choice of man to be that of God’s. It does not matter what man’s choice is. Man’s opinion does not count when God choose who He prefers. In Genesis 48:13-20, Joseph arranged his son’s before his father Jacob according to the custom. He tried to correct his father thinking he made a mistake while praying for them but Ephraim was God’s choice. No man chooses God but God chooses every man.

Jospeh, Daniel, Esther and David all had beautiful inside — right hearts. For God to choose, He considers not the good and beautiful look. None of these people mentioned had a beautiful cloth. When you are chosen by God, He fast tracks you, brings you from the back seat to the front, and lifts you in an unusual way. He gives you what you do not work for neither what you are qualified for.

this fact, God is selective, He is not limited by non-availability. He knows what He is looking for in a man. When God chooses people to do His purpose /fulfil His plans, He always goes deeper than appearance, tradition, education or position. The qualification for choice is determined by Him and not man. Being beautiful in appearance doesn’t stop Him from choosing you neither, me glad for He had chosen you (Jn. 15:16).

PRAYER POINTS

1. Lord, make me available for You anytime You seek for a man after Your heart.

2. I refuse to base my life on people’s opinions henceforth, I will be for God and Him alone.

3. Pray for our leaders everywhere that they will receive the grace to wait upon God in any of the appointments they make.
