DCLM Daily Manna

DCLM Daily Manna 29 March 2021 Devotional By Pastor W. F Kumuyi – Don’t Deny The Truth

TOPIC: Don’t Deny The Truth

TEXT: Mark 11:27-33 (KJV)

27 And they come again to Jerusalem: and as he was walking in the temple, there come to him the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders,

28 And say unto him, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority to do these things?

29 And Jesus answered and said unto them, I will also ask of you one question, and answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.

30 The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men? answer me.

31 And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then did ye not believe him?

32 But if we shall say, Of men; they feared the people: for all men counted John, that he was a prophet indeed.

33 And they answered and said unto Jesus, We cannot tell. And Jesus answering saith unto them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.

KEY VERSE: “And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then did ye not believe him? But if we shall say, Of men; they feared the people: for all men counted John, that he was a prophet indeed. And they answered and said unto Jesus, We cannot tell…” – (Mark 11:31-33)

MESSAGE:

Many people habitually dismiss facts that do not fit their worldview. They deny the truth in an attempt to hang on to illusions; the fantasy that they consider to be okay.

The scribes, chief priests and elders of the people found themselves thrown into a dilemma here when they attempted to question the authority of the Lord Jesus. They obviously had been looking for ways to stop Him and discredit His ministry as it obviously posed a serious challenge to their hypocrisy and long-held authority over the people. They asked Jesus the source of the authority He used to preach. He caught them in their craft when He equally asked them to tell Him the source of the authority of John the Baptist. Seeing that they had been caught in their trap, they denied knowing the source of the authority of John. They denied the truth that they knew.

A lot of people deny the truth today when they see that it hunts and haunts them. Lacking the grace and power to pay the price of self-denial and consecration, they claim that holy living is not a possibility. In fact, some preachers deny the truth of the totality of the word of God because they do not want to lose their congregation, fame or large online followership.

The truth you hide today will obviously hurt you tomorrow because there is nothing anyone can do against the truth. It takes real courage to know the truth and stand by it irrespective of popular opinion and practices of the people. We must rise courageously to affirm and assert the truth even if it will be at the cost of all that may be dear to us. Do not deny the truth. Do not subtly rationalise the truth and seek to explain it away. Do not cover up the truth or seek to bury it.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Do not stay silent to please people; speak the truth!

THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Deuteronomy 28-30
