DCLM Daily Manna 26 January 2023 Devotional By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Don’t Stop Trying

TOPIC: Don’t Stop Trying (DCLM Daily Manna 26 January 2023)

KEY VERSE: “And they brought in the ark of the LORD, and set it in his place, in the midst of the tabernacle that David had pitched for it: and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD” (2 Samuel 6:17).

TEXT: 2 Samuel 6:12-17 (KJV)

12 And it was told king David, saying, The Lord hath blessed the house of Obededom, and all that pertaineth unto him, because of the ark of God. So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obededom into the city of David with gladness.

13 And it was so, that when they that bare the ark of the Lord had gone six paces, he sacrificed oxen and fatlings.

14 And David danced before the Lord with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod.

15 So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet.

16 And as the ark of the Lord came into the city of David, Michal Saul’s daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart.

17 And they brought in the ark of the Lord, and set it in his place, in the midst of the tabernacle that David had pitched for it: and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord.

MESSAGE:

History was made in July 2022, when a young Nigerian athlete broke the world’s record twice in one day. A former world champion who participated in one of the races recalled that the Nigerian woman “was frustrated when she finished fourth in Doha and Olympics in Japan and almost quit the sport. It was terrible for her. Her feat today is a reward for hard work and perseverance after so many heartbreaking moments in her career”. It is true that winners never quit just as quitters never win.

David had initially abandoned the ark of the Lord in the house of Obededom because of the death of Uzzah who touched it contrary to God’s command. Three months later, report reached David that God had blessed Obededom because of the ark in his house. David, therefore, resolved to get the ark back to Jerusalem, ensuring that everything was done properly this time. David learnt from his previous mistake; so, he allowed the priests to carry the ark on their shoulders as expected. That was not enough. He made the event a real worship time. He offered sacrifices of oxen and fatlings along the way and personally led the team in worship (2 Samuel 6:14). He was simply too happy to hide his joy for the successful assignment.

David did not allow his initial setback to stop him from trying again; neither was he disturbed that his wife did not appreciate all he did. He made good use of his past mistakes and eventually succeeded in achieving the goal of taking the ark of the Lord to Jerusalem. He was not ashamed of publicly honouring God as he completed an important assignment that had been truncated previously by presumptuous action.

Many people do not learn from their past mistakes. Thus, they abandon their dreams or project because of past blunder. Do not allow initial setbacks to debar you from pursuing your goals in life. God wants you to be a winner.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
The only guarantee for failure is to stop trying.
