DCLM Daily Manna – Driven By Compassion

DCLM Daily MannaTopic: Driven By Compassion [DCLM Daily Manna 17 January 2020 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]

Text: Matthew 15:32-39

32 Then Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.

33 And his disciples say unto him, Whence should we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to fill so great a multitude?

34 And Jesus saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven, and a few little fishes.

35 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground.

36 And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and brake them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.

37 And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets full.

38 And they that did eat were four thousand men, beside women and children.

39 And he sent away the multitude, and took ship, and came into the coasts of Magdala.

Key Verse: “Then Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way” – (Matthew 15:32).

MESSAGE:

Underlying the success of any endeavour in life is the strong motive that drives it. Generally, people who have very genuine motives have been known to excel far beyond their peers, contributed immensely to the general good of humanity and have left behind worthy and commendable legacies. As we look at the passage of our meditation today, we cannot but be struck by the love and compassion that drove the actions and ministry of Jesus. He presents Himself to us today as a Shepherd who truly loves and cares for His sheep.

Observe that the miracle of the multiplication of bread that took place here happened out of the care and compassion of Jesus. It was out of a genuine desire to meet people’s needs and solve their problems; same with every other miracle Jesus did in His life time. They were never meant to boost His ego. His miracles resulted from the deep compassion and care He had for the people.

We will never be able to truly help people out of their predicaments except we truly love and care for them. There are people who throw up philanthropic deeds just to get a good name and win cheap popularity. The same is true of pastors and ministers who seek to perform miracles so that people may know how great a “man of God” they are! No wonder some delve into diabolical practices to sustain their miracle-working power. How we need to be wary of such ministers!

As we care for the spiritual welfare of others, let us also think of other aspects of their lives, as deeds of kindness can have a deep effect and produce a lasting result. This wonderful balance will make a greater impact.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Miracles happen when someone truly cares!
