DCLM Daily Manna 29 October 2024 Devotional By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — God Fulfils Promises

TOPIC: God Fulfils Promises (DCLM Daily Manna 29 October 2024)

KEY VERSE: “Wherefore she said unto Abraham, Cast out this bondwoman and her son: for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac” – Genesis 21:10

TEXT: Genesis 21:1-14 (KJV)

1 And the Lord visited Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did unto Sarah as he had spoken.

2 For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.

3 And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac.

4 And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac being eight days old, as God had commanded him.

5 And Abraham was an hundred years old, when his son Isaac was born unto him.

6 And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me.

7 And she said, Who would have said unto Abraham, that Sarah should have given children suck? for I have born him a son in his old age.

8 And the child grew, and was weaned: and Abraham made a great feast the same day that Isaac was weaned.

9 And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, which she had born unto Abraham, mocking.

10 Wherefore she said unto Abraham, Cast out this bondwoman and her son: for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac.

11 And the thing was very grievous in Abraham’s sight because of his son.

12 And God said unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad, and because of thy bondwoman; in all that Sarah hath said unto thee, hearken unto her voice; for in Isaac shall thy seed be called.

13 And also of the son of the bondwoman will I make a nation, because he is thy seed.

14 And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread, and a bottle of water, and gave it unto Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, and the child, and sent her away: and she departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba.

MESSAGE

God’s promises, no matter how delayed, will never be late. This is confirmed in our text when Isaac, the long-awaited heir, was born to Abraham and Sarah, as promised. No word of God shall fall to the ground, for He is faithful. As He did with Sarah, God will always visit those who put their trust in and patiently wait for Him. Through them, He will manifest what appears impossible and beyond human comprehension because as someone said, what God cannot do does not exist.

Amid the euphoria that accompanied Isaac’s birth, Sarah observed the mocking of Ishmael. The arrival of the newborn baby in the family caused a shift of attention from the older son, eventually leading to jealousy on the part of Ishmael. He was no longer the main object of attention as it used to be. He developed ill feelings towards Isaac, and routinely laughed at him and his aged mother in derision. Sarah could not condone the disrespect of Ishmael and demanded the expulsion of his mother and him.

Although it was difficult, Abraham had to meet Sarah’s request if he must enjoy the full benefits of God’s blessings which would come through Isaac. Those who intend to enjoy the fullness of God’s blessings must be ready to give up sin, compromise, polygamy, and unequal yoke of whatever sort. Prompt obedience, as seen in Abraham, delivers us from the bondage of Satan.

All who belong to Christ today are Abraham’s descendants and heirs according to God’s promise. However, the only sure way of becoming His heirs is repentance toward God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Children of Abraham by faith are co-heirs with Christ.
