TOPIC: He Keeps His Word (DCLM Daily Manna 16 January 2023)

KEY VERSE: “And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain” (Exodus 3:12).

TEXT: Exodus 3:11-14 (KJV)

11 And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?

12 And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.

13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?

14 And God said unto Moses, I Am That I Am: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I Am hath sent me unto you.

MESSAGE:

By divine arrangement, the Israelites were in Egypt for about 430 years, the last 400 of which they were in servitude. History indicates that after the death of Joseph, their guardian, there was a revolution that saw the uniting of the Upper and Lower Egypt. That merger also brought about the emergence of a Pharaoh that did not reckon with the noble role of Joseph. The Israelites were considered a threat and were subjected to a gruesome servitude. They cried to God for liberation and He raised Moses to be their deliverer. The text in focus today centres on His reassuring words to back up Moses in the process.

Life, certainly, is full of ups and downs. Israel enjoyed the best of times when Joseph was the second-in-command in Egypt but the worst of times thereafter. God is never blind to our plights nor is He indifferent to our pains. He appointed Moses who felt incapable and inadequate to do the job of delivering the suffering Israelites. God knows how, who and when to intervene in our plights. He is the “I AM that I AM”. He gave Moses the promise of success right from the outset of his commission (verse 12). What an assurance! God’s promises are as good as reality because He is, absolutely, a promise keeping God.

We may infer from all these that “Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all” (Psalm 34:19). Life is hardly a straight line, but God is always ready to deliver us from despair. He is aware of our sufferings and His promises to us are irrevocable. He will do what He promised, regardless of prevailing circumstances.

It is possible that you are at the moment struggling with a peculiar challenge for which you lack the might to tackle. Search the Scriptures and you will see that God has a promise for you in that regard.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Every promise of God is bankable
